11/16/2018 Monk Seal Dailies: Lesley's Ka'ena Update

Yesterday – RW02 “PVKauai” spent all day in front of our beach access (photos with white writing)

This morning he was still sleeping up in the Naupaka line. I went on checking the beaches till the parking lot.
I let Tammy know so when she came later, she could stop by to see him.
When she arrived, there was a second seal there. I finished my meeting and went to meet her. Our second seal was RG40 “Holokai”. They entered the water had a play session and hauled out further down the beach. They were high on the Naupaka line when I checked on them late this afternoon.

We started our hike to the point. At 10 Mints Beach RK88 “Puna” was well hidden among some rocks. He’s looking great. He’s fur coat is so light it makings him blend in the sand.
Different from his cousin RK40 “Napua” she already has shades of green on her coat.

At the point RO40 “Ka’ena” was high on Main Beach on the old patch of sand surrounded by rocks and Naupakas. His molt is VERY S-L-O-W its barely at 5% on D5m

We got rained on a couple of times today but had a good time doing outreach and even got to see albatrosses flying around. More and more are landing. On our way out we heard some “whistles”.  More tomorrow 🌺
