Team Billand headed out to Paradise Cove and to their astonishment there was a photographer next to Pohaku. They asked him to move and there was no response. Team Billand went to get some signs and posted around Pohaku which also surrounded the people. The photographer did speak with Robert and said he didn't see the seal. hmmm I think he needs to clean his lens. In the end he did apologize which may be a step in the right direction. Team Billand called the incident into the hotline and eventually volunteer Karen arrived. They left the site shortly after and still there were other photographers going beyond the signs to get their photos. tsk tsk
Team Billand next stop was at a Leeward Beach where they found Kekoa Alii RK72 was to the left on lower rocks molting (finally). RIP RR70 was to the right on lower rocks, moving over to the water hole. ( aka Benny's playboy pond :-) many of the old posse will remember that story.
On their last visit there was another seal on mid rocks. It was Ka'ale RH32 on his own today, guess Lei Ola had enough of the boys. They spotted his small marker above his right fore flipper, his small natural bleach spot on his neck area, no tags seen. Both Kekoa and RIP remained in their special spots. ** Note ** Team Billand's Kekoa photos were subject to some technical difficulties and didn't make it to the blog.
Marilyn did the Ka'ena Point hike today and only saw one seal. She checked all the hot spots on the way in and out and came up empty. The one critter she did find was PvKauai RW02 at Hiddne Beach and he remained there all day.
Well Marilyn certainly had better results viewing Rabbit Island. She spent two hours and had seven seals in three groups.
At Left Point Beach near the rocks there were three seals together. An U/M subadult size, a weaner that she is ID'ing as RK37 and an U/M adult.
Two seals were near each other about 50 feet left (Lanikai side) of the 1BS. U/M juvenile male older coat, two tags. RK38 Hali'a weaner size, female belly, two tags and no natural bleach on left side.
Two seal near the 3BS: RW22 Kolohe, adult size, new coat, partial tag and natural bleach behind the RFF. RN46 Kea, adult size, male belly, 2 tags and natural bleach RFF.
