11/15/2018 Monk Seal Dailies:

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, and Team T&D.  Also I believe Barbara solved the mystery seal from Makaha in yesterday's post.

Team Billand was out at Makaha this morning and found a pretty little young'en sleeping up on the rocks. Barb immediately recognized her facial scars on the right side, a CC scar near her teats under belly, not to mention the scars on her RFF.  Waves were slapping at her hind flippers making her look around as if she were thinking "what was that?" They hung out with her for an hour, but this little girl wasn't very active.  An email later in the day from Barbara stating yesterdays little seal was most likely RH92.  Wonder where she'll go next?  I know her "aunties" on Kauai want her home.

Next stop for Team Billand on the west side they spotted a volunteer on site. They walked down and spotted a seal about 80% molted. They were able to ID Da Benny RE74. Once they were able to make an ID they left the site to go check out the other beaches.

Team Billand's next find was Kekoa Alii RK72 alone and snoozing. He was resting peacefully, almost looked like he had a smile on his face.  Barbara was hoping Kawena would show up but not today. On a later check Kekoa was still in the same spot alone.

Finally after checking the outfall and nearby beaches they found Ka'ale RH32. He was on the rocks out cold, looking fat and happy. While watching over him they spotted a couple of dolphins jumping, spinning and thrashing about. There were no boats or people around, and they seemed to be enjoying the freedom.

Team T&D did the Ka'ena Point trek and their first dind was RIP RR70 on back beach. They noticed a flower lei close to where he was hauled out. They wanted to retrieve the lei, but it was too close.  It's a nice sentiment, but people should remove the string to avoid any type of entanglement for marine life.

Team T&D found Ka'ena RO40 high up on the main beach. Today makes day four of his molt. After Ka'ena they came across Puna RK88 at 10 minute beach resting peacefully. And last but not least RW02 PvKauai was in front of the Lyman house.

Just a thought.... I found myself looking at today's sighting and other than RH92, it was all about the boys. It's funny how some days there are no females to be found and other days it's just about the girls.  (sorry but this is what I think about after all these years).
