11/23/2018 Monk Seal Dailies: (part 1)

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Marilyn, Tammy T, Lesley, and in the yesterday news department we have news from Ken T and Justin T.   Lesley's update is part 2 of the dailies and since we had two updates from yesterday see part 3 of the dailies.

Tammy only found one seal today out at Turtle Bay. Right Spot is about 50% molted hanging out at her old stomping ground.

Team Billand found two animals in the morning on a westside beach. Kekoa Alii RK72 on the lower rocks well into his molt.  The other critter was RIP RR70.  While Team Billand was observing the boys, they noticed movement to the left of the lower rocks.  There was a while belly rolling in the shallows and then tried to haul up, but noticed the other seals and took off. They were were able to ID this critter as Lei Ola RH48. Later she came back hauled up mid rocks, then made her way up on the high rocks, body draped over the rocks.
On their afternoon check they spotted another animal with Lei Ola on Mid Rocks.  Well there he was little butthead Ka'ale. ( okay he's not so little anymore)

During their afternoon trek at a Leeward Beach they found a seal alone, no signs on the shore surrounded by people. Sad to see,  Benny moved about very aware of their presence.

Team Billand did the Ka'ena West trek and at the 20 mark they found a seal sleeping below the cliff. It was hidden but with some persistence they were able to make and ID of R353. No tags, CC on back scar on lower jaw, CC over LFF.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island for about two hours today. There were two seals on the island when she first arrived.  UM#1 was on the rock Lanikai side of LPB, adult male, 2 tags and new coat.
RW22 Kolohe was behind waterfront rocks 30 feet to the left of 3BS. ID'd by adult size, new coat,
male belly and natural bleach behind RFF.
About 30 minutes into the observations a small seal hauled out between the 3BS and SRI. The seal was weaner size and Marilyn was fairly sure there was a small natural bleach on the left side. Marilyn is ID'ing it as RK37 (sadies pup).
Then 20 minutes later two seals hauled out directly in front of the 1BS. UU adult size with 2 tags. this critter showed it's belly.
UM#2 a juvenile to subadult size with 2 tags and male belly.  Although Marilyn can not confirm any ID she is hoping this critter is Aka rj06.
