8/24/2018 Monk Seal Dailies & Hurricane Lane

Today's dailies are possible through Team Billand who apparently got bored while waiting for Hurricane Lane to arrive,
Just a quick note regarding the Hurricane, my heart & prayers go out to the folks on the Big Island and all folks affected on any of the other Islands ( fire on Maui, fire on West Side of Oahu)....
To say nothing happened is an insult to anyone experiencing any hardship.
Many of us who did not get hit by the high winds and heavy rains before Lane became a Tropical Storm are lucky and I for one am grateful !!   This was a long couple of days just waiting for a disaster to strike, not knowing what would happen was scary enough for me.  I am glad I was prepared for the worse and ended up not having to deal with the hardship. I am grateful, my home, my Mom, and furry kids are safe.  I only wish that was true for everyone in the Island chain.

Team Billand was unable get into the outfall today as it was locked up. No one able to fish today, unless of course Ka'ale RH32 was there, by himself, with all that fish to gorge on. LOL Team Billand did not see him and there is no way to determine if he was actually there. (my money is he was).

They checked a few beaches and much to their happiness they spotted a seal moving about on the rocks. There was RN14 Kalani, alone without his companion (RL42). He is very green, alert, and grown up. Look out ladies, there is another available dude on the loose.

Team Billand wasn't alone out there, some crazy surfers decided to take advantage of the big sets. Some of the beaches were showing signs of erosion. AND a couple of dolphins out there were having the time of their life out there. No boats, no swimmers, just play.

An email from my ol' pal Gayle sent a link to this story. I will let you read (if you haven't seen it already) All I have to say... IT's ABOUT TIME!!

We have experienced two hurrincanes, Iwa in 1982 and ten years later, Iniki 1992.
Back then my parents home got damaged with Iwa, Parents were rescued by a cop named Scottie Moore. We could have lost mom, dad and sister if it werent for Officer Moore.
Parents had to live with us for one year...rebuild, and was hit again by Iniki. Only that one, Dad made sure the house was built above ground on concrete, so the house survived. But everything under the house was lost.

So when HURRICANE warnings come...our minds flash back to those two storms immediately.

This time we were very fortunate to not get hit...LANE GOT LOST...THANK GOD.

Not easy to wait for a storm to come for two days...but we survived and we are stocked up good with supplies.

Our hearts go out to BIG ISLAND, who have suffered so many things for months this year. Hope all can find the courage to keep trying, inspite of their losses. God keep you safe folks.

As for not being able to get to a beach was disappointing...BORING...not used to just laying around all day long. We did experience strong gusty winds which we thought was going to knock over the avocado tree. So we got the saws out, chopped the tree of over 20 years to a shorter height, easier to manage. The winds continued, but our electricity stayed on, THANKS.

The sun will shine brightly tomorrow, hopefully the skies will be BLUE...and a seal or two can be found SAFE.

thank you for sharing Barbara. It was such a relief that the storm passed, but it should never be taken lightly. And yes our prayers to everyone on the Big Island, it's been a rough 2018 for them.
