Team Billand did their morning ritual checking the outfall. Our little RH32 Ka'ale was MIA today. They made multiple checks throughout the day but he never showed up. Maybe he's sleeping off all the eating he's been doing, maybe he found a spot to molt. We just don't know, what I do know is Barbara worries about this little one. Let's all just stay positive that he is safely tucked away somewhere just because he ate too much yesterday.
Team Billand did the Ka'ena West trek and it was seal free until they reached the 40 mark. There was a "treasure" waiting. This critter gave them a hard time showing them any markers to go on. So they stood there studying and waiting. Finally they spotted the scar over the left eye and small ding on his back. They knew it was RIP RR70 and he was in a great spot that was hidden.
LESLEY's UPDATE:
Tammy & I did a D2 7+ hours day monitoring from Camp Erdman to the Waiane side of Ka'ena Pt.
Our first find was a dead White Tip Shark in one of the big dips/coves.
In the NARS we saw RO40 "Ka'ena" hauled out at the entrance of his pool. He was still there hours later when we came back.
Out on the Waianae side we first checked the cove where yesterdays boat had capsized and there wasn't one sign that it had happened. We then hiked all the way to the gate aprox. that's side 10Mnts mark. On the way we saw RR70 "RIP" - his N1 bleach is completely green now.
Back on Mokuleia side we found RN58 "Luana on D6 of her molt and it's at 90%. She played a good trick on us cause she was there this morning when we went by but in the only nook we didn't look at, later we saw her wallow and trail.
We did a last check at CE before wrapping it a day.
Today is D3 of not seeing RK88 "Puna" (M) and D2 for RK40 "Napua" (F) - they have spread their flippers and left the nursery !! More tomorrow
Rip RR70
