8/19/2018 Monk Seal Dailies: Rabbit Island U/F, J/F, U/M, RK38, RG32, RH32, RN14,

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Marilyn.  I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Mrs. Whisperer spent about 3 hours viewing Rabbit Island today and spotted at least five seals. ( Rabbit Island seems to be the go to place this week).
Seal #1 - UF - at LPB next to rocks; seal with a new coat and two tags. Seal went into one of the inlets in the rock flats. A couple of hours later a female seal with a new coat hauled out from a different inlet onto the beach. Marilyn believes the two are the same seal and could be the smaller of the molting seal she spotted on Friday.
Seal #2 - UJF at SRI with seal #3. Seal #2 also has a new coat, female belly and 2 tags.
Seal #3 - UM at SRI - Juvenile to subadult size. Male belly with possibly three visible ventral scars and two tags.
RK38 Hali'a (Aukai's kid) spotted a small seal at 1:30 haul out at LPB. Seal had 2 tags and light colored female belly. She thinks there was an applied N4 bleach on the right side. Forty-five minutes later the seal entered the water for about 5 minutes and then hauled out closer to the 1BS. Base on size, coloration and 2 tags, which leads her to believe it was RK38 Hali'a.
RG32 hauled out to join #2 and #3 at SRI about 1:13. RG32 was identified by applied N32 bleaches on his right shoulder and his mid left side, male belly and two tags. He's looking healthy.

Team Billand was at the outfall bright and early and as soon as they arrived one of the fishermen yelled to them "Your seals out there" . They spotted RN14 Kalani and RH32 Kaale in the outfall fighting. Then the two headed out and landed at a near by beach landed briefly. It looked like Ka'ale was going alone with Kalani today, to the point he was being submissive to Kalani's barks laying on the shore so still. Then.... they would fight again and moved back to the outfall. Team Billand noticed Kalani disappeared shortly after but Ka'ale stayed. He was foraging finding and eating fish on his own.
A couple of hours later Team Billand found RN14 Kalani at one of the beaches on the westside.
He was alone looking big. He was vocal by moaning and mouth wide open, (hmmm wonder if he
needed some tums :-)

Team Billand made the Ka'ean West trek and from the beginning it rained. Luckily it stopped just in time for them to get a good look at a fully molted Leia RL42.  There were people out and about but no one bothered her. She is looking beautiful in her brand new coat, her tags were visible.
