8/20/2018 Monk Seal Dailies: (part 1) RH32, RN14, RE74, RJ58

Today's dailies are brought to you Team Billand, Lesley and Melody. Lesley's Ka'ena Update is part two of the dailies.

Team Billand got to the outfall by early morning. When they got there Cianna and Jackie from NOAA were already there ( really really early risers) observing Ka'ale RH32. Team Billand shared some photos with them so they positively ID'd Ka'ale.  It isn't always easy to see tags when he's in the water.  Team Billand departed a couple of hours later to run some errands. Then returned after 9 and spotted Ka'ale returning to the outfall.
Team Billand did one more check in the afternoon and found Ka'ale at a nearby beach finally hauled out. He is looking quite plump, and green. A very content chubby kid.

In between visits to the outfall Team Billand checked in at a Westside Beach and found RN14 Kalani in a waterhole by the rocks. He was alone and remained that way for the rest of the day.

While trying to get some lunch they made a stop and found da Benny RE74 on shore by some canoes. They did see that signs were already up and a volunteer on site. Benny's tags visible. cookie scare by his penis and line scare on belly.

Melody sent an email, and I have to imagine she was in her glory today. She was on the North Shore today and stopped to check out some beaches, and with great joy she came across Kaimana RJ58.  On site there were some volunteers so she had been looked after. The beach was busy with visitors and locals which gave Melody the opportunity to talk about her favorite seal. (aside from Rocky)

Looking like her momma - Rocky got her name because she looked like a raccoon!
