Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:45 am to 2:58 pm and there were ultimately two seals.
Initially when she arrived there weren't any seals seen. So Marilyn took the time to view the birds. She was surprise to see two pairs of adult Masked Boobies. She first saw a Masked Booby and chick in July of 2017 and the adults have raised at least four chicks. Perhaps the new adults were born on Rabbit Island at some point.
At 11:47 am she became aware of an adult seal out on the rock flatsLanikai side of LPB. The seal finally rolled over and Marilyn was able to see it was an Adult Female: adult size, very light female belly with noticeable scar on the upper right chest area. This seal also has a line scar on the left neck area and a pit scar near the mid right dorsal area. Marilyn did not see tags, and she's not sure she's seen this seal before.
At 1:47 pm a seal hauled out near the 1BS. Marilyn labeled this as an Adult Male: adult size, dark older coat, dark male belly, unsure about tags. She thinks this is AM1 from yesterday.
Due to a rain squall that came through Marilyn took a break. When it was over the Adult Female had left the rock flats. At 2:28 pm the AF hauled out on LPB and galumphed up to the Adult Male. There was an interaction between the two on several occasions, but then the AF moved a short distance away and went into snooze mode.
Team R&B started their day at pokai and spotted RM31 Kai. They were happy to see him as he made his way to upper rocks and settled in. Then they noticed he was scurrying on the rocks with head looking back. Team R&B wasn't sure what had happened until they saw two dogs with a homeless woman. Before they could do anything RM31 Kai took off and they didn't see him again.
While they were at pokai there were some issues having to do with a couple folks from the homeless camp. Team R&B focused on making sure the seals were okay. Another seal hauled up on the rocks to the right side. It was the lovely RH76 Kala.
There were lots of people out on the beaches today. When they returned later in the day there weren't any seals in the area.
Heading over to the rest camp area they once again saw multiple seals foraging, but today they were further out. The first to be ID'd was R3CX Nalu. He had been foraging while they were there, but just after they left the area they saw from afar that he had hauled out.
Next they were able to ID the lovely female RH48 Lei Ola. She was busy catching some good grinds.
Then out there in the open ocean they spotted Mr. big mouth RL20 Kalua. He certainly has lots to say.
As they arrived at their last stop they spotted a seal fronting the Lifeguard's stand. They got to the area and there were some folks that were too close. The lifeguard asked them if he should put out the signs, of which they said yes and he put out two.
"Little Pickle" RP28 is just over 50% molted from what they could see. They are delighted to see this little cutie from Kauai, who happens to be KC's son. Lifeguards said he stayed all night at the tower. At one point he left and came back.
After Team R&B left, they could see from afar people going up to the seal. Bummer!
