October 2, 2024 Wednesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

The NOAA team visited Rabbit Island today in hopes of bleaching some seals, but the seals did not cooperate.
Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:59 to 1:42 pm and there were three seals seen.
The NOAA team viewed RT19 on the Lanikai side of LPB. The weaner left shortly after.
While the team was on LPB, two seals hauled out amongst the NOAA kayaks.
An Unknown Male hauled out directly down from the 3BS and about 25 feet from one of the kayaks. The UM was sub-adult to small adult size, new coat, light gray male belly and no tags. Marilyn noted some scars on the ventral and it is possible this seal is R416.
What turned out to be R7AF hauled out at SRI: sub-adult size, old coat, brown male belly and two red tags. He appears to have a scar above his left eye.
Both the UM and R7AF were too alert for the NOAA team to get bleaches on them. So the team will have to try another day.

Team R&B started the day at the bay and while watching the dolphins they spotted a seal swimming in the pod. Unfortunately they didn't get a picture.  The seal went from the open sea to the bay where people were swimming. No one knew the seal was there.
One  adult with a green and one clean coat seal were out there again. They suspect it was R3CX Nalu and RH48 Lei Ola who have been
together out there recently. They stayed at the site for three hours but no seals hauled out.

Team R&B headed over to another west side location that they have avoided for a while. They spotted a seal and made their way over. They were surprised to see not just one but four seals. There was Miss Kala RJ76 and RG32 who was hoping to get her attention.
To the right of Kala by a pond was RM31 Kai resting on the rocks.
On the lower rocks was Kekoa Alii RK22/K23 (formerly tagged RK72). The burlap from the sat tag is falling off, but the plastic part still seems to be attached.

Next stop at Kahe they only found RL20 Kalua. He was alone on the rocks looking quite green and plump.

Team R&B decided to make the trek out to Ka'ena West. They found one seal Miss R604, she was alone. Apparently this was the time when she needed to relieve herself by pooping and peeing.
