October 9, 2024 Wednesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:45 to 2:25 pm and there were five seal seen during that time.
Initially on the waterline on the 1BS side of LPB was an Adult Male: adult size, old coat, tan male belly and at least one tag.
Near SRI were two seals near each other:
R7AF: subadult size, probably about 80% molted, medium gray male belly and two red tags.
Adult Female: adult size, newer coat, light gray female belly and two red tags.
Out on RRB was a sub-adult Female: smaller sub-adult size, older coat with yellowish-green female belly. Not sure about tags. She has been there for several days.
At about 12:54 pm, R7AF entered the SRI channel and was playing with a seal that Marilyn is pretty sure was weaner RT19. They then moved along shore in the Lanikai direction passing in front of the AF. Then about 1:30 pm they had made their way to LPB where the AM joined them in the water and then Marilyn lost sight of them.
At 2:14 pm, R7AF hauled out alone about 50 feet Lanikai side of the 3BS. A few minutes later, RT19 and the AM hauled out a short distance Makapuu of 1BS.

Team R&B's first sighting were two seals foraging way out in a school of fish. This seems to be a regular occurrence lately. There were four canoes, a wind surfer who kept going in the school of fish. The seals kept moving further out. They knew the seals were R3CX Nalu and RH48 Lei Ola.
The seals were going nuts in the school of fish, heads above the water, swimming fast to get to the fish.
Team R&B were out there for a couple of hours hoping they would haul out, but they did not.

Next they decided to do the Ka'ena West trek.  They noticed five people on the rocks and there was a seal. They watched and finally all the people left. The seal was RP30 Puka, good to see him.
Then they spotted another seal, and spent an hour trying to get an ID. Of course the seal did not move. They saw a tag and at first couldn't read it.
Finally the seal moved and the saw a CC scar on the lower back. That was all they needed to figure out it was R3CU. They were surprised since its been quite awhile since they had seen him. He moved up higher, but kept looking around. Team R&B thought maybe another seal might be around but didn't see any. R3CU entered the water and left the area.

After Ka'ena West , they took a drive to tracks. They were happy they did because they found RL20 Kalua. He was alone snoozing on the rocks.

And last but not least they found lovely RL42 Leia. She was alone resting peacefully at Makaha.
