October 18, 2024 Friday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:45 to 1:45 pm and there were five seals seen during that time.
Out on the back Lanikai side of LPB was R416 Makali'i: sub-adult size, newer coat, light male belly with distinctive scars and no tags. Makali'i appears much larger in this location than he did near the 1BS yesterday.
Near the middle of LPB near the surge channel were two seals:
Adult Male: adult size, about 60% molted, medium gray ventral and at least one tag. His ventral is almost completely molted and his dorsal has lots of patches of old fur.
Chubby Weaner RT90 Manapua: large weaner size, tannish yellow male belly and two red tags.
Between 1BS and 2BS was an Unknown Sub-adult: small sub-adult size, medium gray ventral, unsure about sex and at least one red tag.
Between 3BS and SRI was R7AF: sub-adult size, new coat, light male belly and two red tags.

Team R&B started their day at pokai and this morning there was only one seal. R617 was alone on the rocks. They noted his scar on his head for the ID.
On the rest camp side there were multiple seals foraging. They first ID'd RL20 Kalua who is now 100% molted. They also spotted RL12 Aukai who never landed.
Next they spotted R3CX Nalu foraging. He never landed.
There was a kayak passing by and noticed the seals and took some
photos. As he was taking the photo Aukai and the other seal was behind him, then next to him and he never knew.

When they didn't see the other seals they went back to Pokai and there were three seals now.
RM31 Kai was next to R617 snoozing.  Then RL20 Kalua came up looking quite handsome in his new coat. RL20 bugged RM31 who rolled over and galumphed away from R617.
RL20 followed but then made a turn to rest away from RM31. R617 just stayed in his zen place.

Team R&B headed over to Nimitz and found Kawika R407 alone on shore. They were happy to see him again. While there they got to check out a plover and a sandpiper.

Next stop at Kalaeloa where they found a large male onshore. He was alone, and his coat was sandy, but then he flipped over. They were able to ID RN14 Kalani. They were thrilled to see him, its been a long time. He is looking green but doing okay. His applied N14 bleach is still visible.
