October 17, 2024 Thursday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:45 am to 1:30 pm and there were six seals seen during that time. In the middle of LPB there was a group of three:
Sub-adult Female: smaller sub-adult size, about 90% molted, light gray female belly and two red tags. She appears to have just a few patches of old fur on her rear dorsal area.
Adult Male: adult size, about 30% molted, brown male belly and at least one red tag. His chest is molted but he still has a way to go to complete his molt.
Chubby weaner RT90 Manapua: mega weaner size, tan coat with light male belly and two red tags.
Marilyn hasn't seen him for a couple of week, but he is 6 months old and its not surprising that he has been exploring.
Down from the 1BS were initially two seals:
R416: sub-adult size, newer coat, light male belly with distinctive pigmented areas and scars, no tags.
R7AF: sub-adult size, new coat, light gray make belly and two red tags.
At about 12:45 pm, weaner RT19 hauled out to R416 and R7AF. RT19 was ID'd by his weaner size, light male belly and two red tags. There was considerable nosing around between RT19 and R7AF. At about 12:53, RT19 rolled down toward the water and soon R7AF followed. They entered the water and were not seen again.

Team R&B started their day at the bay where they found the adult male they have been having a hard time identifying. He was back up high in the rocks. They didn't see any tags, scar on the right side of face and scar on fore-flipper with a very green coat.  They believe it is R617 but still haven't received any confirmation.
Next they found Miss Kala RH76 alone resting on the rocks.
They spotted another seal coming in. It was RM31 Kai.

Looking over to rest-camp they saw four seals foraging in and out of the area. The first one they ID'd was RL12 Aukai. Then they ID'd R3CX Nalu who switched between
foraging and chasing after Aukai.
The third seal to be ID'd was RL20 Kalua who appears to be about 99% molted. The fourth seal had a mint green face and clean coat. They could see it was a female with tags, but just couldn't make an ID.

Making their way back to Pokai and where surprised to find three seals.
RM31 Kai, RL20 Kalua and the male they believe to be R617.  RL20 almost done with his molt galumphed up to R617 and touched noses.
Then RM31 got in on the action and there was lots of splashing. R617 took off, RL20 and RM31 played around and then left.

Team R&B spotted two sharks on rest-camp side. The splashes caught their eye and they managed to get a photo of the fins.
From afar they saw Nalu R3CX had hauled out on shore and was being visited by a fan.
