04/05/2022 Tuesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team R&B๐Ÿ’•   Marilyn did take a quick look at Rabbit Island today and there were no seals during her observation.

Team R&B got word from a friend of two seals on shore and one was injured. They hurried to the site and found two seals on shore resting. They were able to ID Nalu R3CX right away, but did see smeared blood on his lower belly area. They did not see any bites, holes, or wounds nothing at this time and he seemed fine.  Although his chest looks like he might be starting to molt.
Then there was the female that took them some time to make an ID.  They tried to look from all sides, and consulted with posse. After seeing a horrific mobbing scar on back area, and under belly the female had a big scar near her nipples, they came up with R8HE (female from Kauai) .  Team R&B first saw her when her mobbing scar was raw.  She's back and looking quite plump.
Folks in the area were good, one lady brought her dog for a walk, and once she realized the seal was there she left.  The hotline was called, and photos were sent. Team R&B stayed with R8HE and Nalu for about two hours.

Heading over to another west side location they were excited to find Pe'ekai RP84 back on high rocks. He was alone at this time, their first check of the site.

They went to another site and initially didn't see any seals but did hear one. There were four boys who decided to stand close to the seal on shore and take a family picture by Dad. The seal leaped up at them and barked warning them to back off.
Team R&B were about 12 feet away from the incident and they very CLEARLY asked them to step away from the seal.  The guy moved but still sat close. Then a woman told her little girl to stand by the seal for a photo. Team R&B explained not only was this a wild animal it is an endangered species.
The hotline was called Team R&B asked that someone come with signs. After a second call and some words, finally after a while a volunteer arrived with signs, Team R&B left.
During all the drama with the people taking photos too close and calling hotline, the seal was ID'd as L7 the little male from Molokai.

While they were busy at the beach with L7 they got word of a seal hauling out at another popular location. They were able to leave right away with all the people around, but once the volunteer arrived they headed over. Posse pal Amy was there on shore, educating folks about RN14 Kalani. There was a zone up and everything was under control. Ya done good Amy!

Leaving and returning to check on Pe'ekai, he was still there. He had moved onto lower rocks and resting peacefully.
They also found R3CU on rocks alone snoozing. His markers on his lower back were visible. He was draped over the rocks, probably too tired to move up.

Last stop they found a huge female on the rocks alone and sleeping. She did not move at all, only lifting her head for a split second. She is looking plump so by process of elimination they reported her as RL42 Leia since this is her spot.
