04/20/2022 Wednesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕.  Also at the end I'm going to include Lesley's video of RN58 giving birth to PO5. The video has gone viral even picked up by the UK, so I am sure most of you have seen it already, but who doesn't love seeing nature at its best.?

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:55 to 3:00 and there were three seals on island.
They were all fairly close together on the waterfront rocks near SRI.
U/S : larger juvenile to smaller subadult size, two red tags, and some green on the belly. Unknown gender because Marilyn never saw the ventral side, but the behavior of the other seals lead her to guess it was a female. The U/S spent much of its time in a tide pool with only its upper 25% showing. It later moved up on the rocks.
S/M: subadult to adult size, mottled brownish gray male belly, two red tags. The S/M and A/M had several spats during her observation.
A/M: adult to subadult size, mottled gray male belly and two red tags (at least one for sure). The A/M tried to keep himself between the U/S and S/M.

Team R&B got to the bay and noticed something in the water. At first they thought it was a dolphin but it turned out to be a seal foraging with something in its mouth. As they got closer they were able to ID R3CX Nalu. He came around the rocks looking for a space to land. They watched him bobbing up and down looking for his spot.
Finally he made his choice to land, and they could see his neck area is molting, even some on the side. Good news no blood seen.  He seems to be doing fine, no reluctance to land, just up and over the rocks with ease.  He settled in and on a recheck later he was still in the same spot.
There were no other seals in this area but there was a car stuck on the beach, oh the things they see!

Team R&B got a text from a friend of two seals landing on a beach. Believe it or not they weren't sure where they had to go but of course figured it out. When they arrived there were no seals, and were told by their friend the seals relocated.  So off they went and then were challenged figuring out the IDs.
They determined the male was R407 Kawika, cc scar on back, funky left eye and no tags. The second seal took more time, younger female no tags.  They believe it to be RL98 Lina but really not positive.

Next stop they spotted a beautiful fat female on the rocks. She was alone and resting, they ID'd Lei Ola RH48, her tags are getting really hard to read. Maybe time for some new bling.

At another west side location, they were thrilled to see four seals on the rocks. One was in the shallows and galumphed to the rocks to bother two other seals.  They ID'd R3CU as the trouble-maker.
The other two were RP84 Pe'ekai and Kai RM31 were on lower rocks snoozing.  They didn't get to snooze for long once R3CU came over to bug them.
Then they saw RH76 Kala to the right of the boys. She is nice and plump and was snoozing in her own space peacefully.
