04/08/2022 Friday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn, photos from Posse Pal Amy and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1 to 2:25 pm and there were three seals on island.
In the Middle Cliff area was an unknown/unknown that spent the entire time almost completely hidden behind waterfront rocks. The seal appeared to have a lighter ventral side, but that all Marilyn could say for sure.
Initially close together about 50 feet Makapuu side of the 3BS were
two seals:
S/F: subadult size, yellowish female belly and at least one tag.
A/M: adult size, darker male belly, not sure about tags.
The S/F and A/M both moved a short way up the beach.

Team R&B started at the outfall and saw a seal sleeping in the corner. It would surface every 4 to 5 minutes, breath and then go backdown.  To the best they can tell it was Kaale, probably plotting his next fish heist.

Heading over to a popular tourist location they found Miss Aukai on shore. She is looking quite large these days. Team R&B couldn't find any signs, so they called the hotline asking about the signs. They stayed for a bit, hotline told them a volunteer would be there soon.

Next seal they found was R8HE Lanakila who was on shore, alone and snoozing. She was very dry indicating she's been there for a while. There were some signs up and Team R&B made some adjustments, and someone close by offered help. Team R&B explained who the seal was, and then noticed another seal coming in.
Good thing they made the adjustments, Kekoa Alii RK72 hauled in and checked out the chubby R8HE. She was not happy with him and fought him, Kekoa being the gentleman backed off for a minute.
They had more words, but R8HE seemed to like Kekoa Alii and they finally settled down. Kekoa kept looking at the water, Team R&B had a feeling another male was on its way.
It was RH32 Kaale immediately hauled up to the two seals. Kekoa barked and chased Kaale who moved to the left by the rocks.
In the end Kaale ended up at one end of the cove, when posse pal Amy arrived.  She helped adjust the zone now that there were three critters. The hotline was called.
Team R&B left for some lunch and rest knowing things were in good hands with posse pal Amy.

After lunch Team R&B headed over to another west side location.  They were happy to find RP84 Pe'ekai once again. He was on high rocks alone and snoozing just fine.

At another location they took a walk around and didn't see anything at first. They turned a corner and there lay a fat female. They ID'd RH76 Kala looking beautiful and very healthy.

Last they finally made it out to their last stop to check on R3CX Nalu.
The other day they saw him and he had some what looked like blood on his underside, not sure what or exactly what was causing it.
Today he was resting on shore with two turtles. As they photographed him they observed blood at his penial area.  They called hotline and NOAA right away and supplied photos.
Nalu didn't seem bothered, just resting on shore with the turtles.
