04/30/2022 Saturday's Daily

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 3:40 to 4:35 and there were four seal during that time.
Alone on LPB was an U/S unknown subadult size, appeared to have a lighter ventral area, but didn't see enough to determine gender and could not tell if there were tags.
The other three seals were in a loose group about 50-60 feet Lanikai side of 3BS:
A/F: adult size, two red tags, yellowish female belly and no NB.
S/M: subadult size, two red tags, tan male belly.
U/J: juvenile size, tan belly (unsure of gender) and at least one red tag.

Team R&B started their day finding RG28 Lefty again. He was alone and on shore. There were signs already up. A man went up next to Lefty, which shows people don't care about signs, he just went past and got his photo of Lefty.  Once the guy saw Team R&B were watching, he left the area.
The beach was crowded, they counted over 70 visitors at this spot, and thankfully they were respectful. The hotline was called. After most people left and the crowd thinned out they left.

At another west side location they spotted a seal in the pond. It was R3CU rolling around, and then galumphed as if he was ready to leave. Thankfully they got the ID and then R3CU left.

Next they had seen a seal from a far, just resting on the rocks. When they got closer to the area the seal had moved into the pond. They saw something sticking out of the side of its mouth.  They ID'd the seal RL20 Kalua. They could see a wad of fishing line, and looked carefully for a hook. They could not see a hook just the fishing line. It does appear the line was pulled and cut short. They called the "authorities" and sent photos.  Unfortunately RL20 did not stick around, he left and they never saw him again.

Team R&B and junior sealette made the Ka'ena West hike out, and today was a great day weather wise,
nice and cool.  They only found one seal, a very fat female. It was RL42 Leia who was basking in the sun on the rocks. There were waves hitting her but she "No Care"

After their trek they spotted a seal from afar, and the beach was packed. They almost didn't go but junior sealette and senior sealette decided it was a go!  So one last stop before it was time to go home.
There was the one and only Benny RE74 on shore!  They hung out for a bit to watch and sure enought a lady walked right in front of him. Thankfully Benny didn't wake up and Team R&B were done for the day. Its a good thing they decided to make that last stop!
