Today's dailies are brought to you by Lesley, Marilyn and Team R&B💕. Lesley's complete ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.
Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12 noon to 2:00 pm and there were five, or maybe six seals on island today. When she first started viewing there were only three seal and later two other seals hauled out.
At middle cliff area there was again a recently molted unidentified adult female (A/F). She is adult size, light gray female belly and two tags. At some point a dead bird washed up in front of her and she kept a close eye on it as it washed in and out of the water.
About 12:30 Marilyn noticed an unidentified adult male (A/M) hauled out near the A/F. He was adult
size, older coat, dark male belly and at least one tag on the RRF.Between the 3BS and SRI was the same juvenile female J/F that was at that location yesterday. Juvenile size, new coat, gray female belly and two tags.
At SRI was an unidentified subadult female. SAF, subadult size, older coat, yellowish female belly with some green and at least one tag. About 12:40 she entered the water and Marilyn lost sight of her.
At 12:52 Marilyn was scanning the coastline, and found P04 Manana had hauled out at LPB.
At 1 pm an unknown sub adult female hauled out at LPB nearer the 3BS. This could be the same unknown subadult female who had entered the water 20 minutes earlier. Older coat, yellowish female belly and at least one tag.
Team R&B started their day at the bay and found RL20 Kalua at the same spot early morning. There were six kayak fishermen and two boats anchored. Kalua was foraging and on occasion was stealing fish. On their second check to the area Kalua was still there but further out.
From afar Team R&B saw there was a seal at tracks. They headed over and found two seals RE74
Benny who is big and bulky looking. He was being the lover along side of Aukai RL12. Aukai whooped him, and he whooped back. They got vocal and seemed annoyed but they stayed together on shore. Volunteers were on site and there were lots of beach goers, volunteers had put up signs. At one point Benny put his fore flipper on Aukai to keep her close and not able to run off.Lastly Team R&B did multiple checks at a westside location hoping to find Kalani. On their last check they saw a seal come into the lower rocks and went out to forage off the rocks, They tried to get an ID but after almost two hours of observation they gave up. They knew it wasn't Kalani and thought it could be Lei Ola but can not tell for sure. They did see a small half "c" scar on right side. Seal reported as a U/U unidentified unknown.
