Today's dailies are brought to you by Marilyn, Lesley and Team R&B💕, and can I just say I am one happy blog lady!
Team R&B found Mr Green Kalua RL20 foraging once again. There were about 30 or so fishermen on the wall and 5 kayaks fishing in the bay. He is very green and it appears he spends a lot of time with his eyes closed. With his eyes are closed he still manages to dodge all the lures and moves off if it gets too crowded. We really want this little buggah to land so we can get a good look at his little green self.
Checking other west side spots they were thrilled to find two seals together on this very busy weekend.
Leia RL42 was trying to snooze, while RN14 Kalani moved about. He was going down below and resting his head on Leia. Kalani is huge and robust while RL42 is still thin, but putting back her weight after pupping.Team R&B heard from a friend earlier in the day that there was a seal in Ewa first thing this morning. They sent them photos and Team R&B were able to make a positive ID. Later Team R&B got word of a seal at plains, so they headed off thinking it would be Kolohe and sure enough it was.
Lifeguard was trying to set up a new zone as the tide was so rough and getting higher. Team R&B told him Kolohe would probably move up so the lifeguard made the adjustment. There were so many people out on the beach today, lots of children right by the seal, the good news is they listened when asked to move. But as more and more people were arriving they were jumping out in front of Kolohe who was sleeping. Several of the kids were washed up in the shore break near him. It got so crazy busy the lifeguard asked the folks to move away or risk getting hurt. Team R&B had to leave Kolohe remained.
Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:15 to 1:00 and observed four seals. Originally alone on the rock flats Lanikai side of LPB was an UF, subadult in size, yellowish female belly with lots of green. Marilyn didn't notice any tags but it could have been the vantage point.
At about 11:55 Marilyn noticed what she believes to be one of the weaners struggling up onto the rock
flats where the UF was. Marilyn reported it as an unknown weaner but it's either P01/RP24 or P04. The UW moved up near the UF, then into a nearby tidepool out of sight. Then the UW moved back up to the UF, no NB was visible but viewing the seals on the rock flats is limited. An UM initially hauled out at SRI at about 11:20, looked around, entered the water then swam in the Lanikai direction and hauled out at LPB head bobbing all the way. He galumphed up the beach and finding no other seals, rolled into the water and headed back in the Makapuu direction checking the shorelines all the way.
He hauled out at the 3BS and went into snooze mode. He was adult size, with a dark male belly. Marilyn did not see any tags and they should have been visible from her perspective.
Behind waterfront rocks on RRB was a light colored seal, Marilyn never saw more the a little sliver of. This critters being reported as an unknown unknown UU.
