Today's dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕
Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:50 to 1:55 and there were four seals on island with lots of movement between them.
At 11:50 Marilyn spotted the weaner P04 newly hauled out at LPB. He would later be joined by an adult male (A/M) who who would run the kid off into the water. The two of them would RK37 on the rock flats Lanikai side of LPB.
At 11:55 she found two seals hauled out on the waterfront rocks near the 3BS. Marilyn thinks one was
the A/M that hauled out at LPB later. the other seal was an unknown adult (U/A) with an older coat. The A/M entered the water about 12 noon and showed up at LPB at 12:07 to join P04. The A/M approached P04 and they both entered the water together about 12:15. The next time she scanned over to the 3BS area the U/A had disappeared and never saw it again. At 12:19 Marilyn saw a seal alone on the rocks flats Lanikai side of LPB. She would ID this seal as RK37. She was dry, with a new coat. At 12:27, P04 and the A/M hauled out with RK37, where they all kept moving around the rock flats. About 1 pm the A/M went back into the water and was not seen again. P04 eventually headed away to play in the tide pools.
Team R&B did their usual morning check on RL20 Kalua and he was doing his usual foraging and stealing. On their afternoon check they were thrilled to find him hauled out and man o man he is greener than green.
They searched around anxiously looking for RH76 Kala. They were happy to find her on the rocks and in the company of Benny RE74. She was alert, but resting with Benny. Benny was in the small pond, keeping his eye on her. She moved, he watched but stayed in the pond. Her shark bite wounds look good, she will be find. They sat with them for about 40 minutes to get a good shot of her wound.
From finding the wounded Kala they left to look at our other wounded seal. Eventually the did find
RN14 Kalani snoozing on the rocks alone. His eye is looking much better (thankfully). He moved into the shallow pond to cool off.At another west side spot they spotted a little seal on shore, very small and green. When they focused on its tags they were shocked to see RM31 Kai. (one of our 2020 kids) He was on shore snoozing until he got hit by a wave and then another. He galumphed higher on shore, in full view. People started pulling over to view the seal, so they called the hotline right away hoping someone would come.
They spotted another seal on shore from afar. They drove over to find Kolohe RW22. A man, woman with their dog and kids walked up to him and Kolohe took off. Team R&B barely got a photo of him thankfully they were able to make a fast ID.
