Today's dailies are brought to you by Lesley, Team Billand and Marilyn. Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.
Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 10:25 to 12:45 and spent an hour before she spotted any critters. Just as Marilyn was going to pack up she saw a juvenile seal hauling out a short distance from the 1BS. As he started up the slope, she spotted his bleached girdle and N3 in front of his rear flippers. He continued up the slope and snoozed for a while. He had a yellow male belly with some green and no tags. He later moved down the waterline and stayed there for the remainder of Marilyn's observation. This was the same behavior as she witnessed yesterday except he was closer to the 3BS.
After watching N3 for a while, she saw another seal hauling out on LPB at about 11:40. This critter was
reported as an unknown juvenile and possibly 2 to 3 years old. This seal had tags, but she never got a look at it's belly. The seal may have a CC scar on the mid right side.Team Billand arrived at a west side location and found Nalu R3CX and Kala RH76 on lower rocks. As they were watching over them, another seal hauled in. It was Kekoa Alii RK72 who had a few words with Nalu. Kekoa would slowly turn around and leave, only to haul back ou on high rocks to the left. He remained there for the rest of the day.
Team Billand went to the outfall and spotted two seals foraging. They ID'd RN14 Kalani and R407 Kawika. After a while they would venture out a little further, and there were five snorklers who followed the two seals with a go pro. At one of the nearby beaches they notices the two seals, and lots of people, dogs, fisher and people using their phones to photograph the seal.
Team Billand saw three seals heading out to tracks. The first to arrive was RN14 Kalani landing on shore alone. Next came RG28 Lefty with Kalani. The 3rd seal to arrive R407 Kawika landed next to RG28 Lefty. Both Lefty and Kawika have CC scars on their backs, R407's are further back. All three boys had a long play session on shore, boys being boys. Team Billand called the hotline and waited til noon when they saw a volunteer arrive.
Team Billand went back to check on Kekoa, Kala and Nalu. They were happy to find RH36 Kawena on the rocks to the right. The rest of gang was still there.
Last part of the day they went to the bay and found of course RN44 hanging out with Lei Ola RH48 on the rocks snoozing. They looked around the area and there were no more seals, but a couple of cool guys playing in the surf.
