02/06/2021 Saturday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Marilyn.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:25 to 1:10 today. She only spotted two critters today, both were small juveniles and probably last years pups.

Just as she was setting up she saw a smaller juvenile seal hauling out between the 3BS and SRI. The seal headed up into the vegetation. Marilyn is pretty sure she saw the applied bleach N3 in front of the rear flippers. The seal had no tags and may have a male belly. He later moved back down to the waterline. He still has a light belly and some green showing.

On the rock flats behind SRI was another small juvenile with no tags and presumably another of the

2020 pups. When this seal headed down closer to the waterfront rocks, Marilyn saw what looked like several line scars on its right side. It then moved behind the waterfront rocks.

Team Billand was searching for seals from one west side beach they spotted two seals on the shoreline trying to haul out at tracks. There was a young surfer taking her close up photos, and finally one landed, it was RN14 Kalani. Team Billand hurried over to find Lefty RG28 hauled out with Kalani RN14. There was some grumbling between them and then they settled in. Team Billand got to see more whales off shore.

Team Billand left for another westside site and were thrilled to find four seals already resting up on the rocks. There was RH76 Kala, R3CX Nalu, RH36 Kawena and Kekoa Alii RK72.

At another nearby location they found RL20 Kalua all alone on the rocks just resting.

Finally they went to the bay and found Lei Ola RH48 and RN44 sleeping together in peace. Both looking chubby and very green.

Lastly Team Billand came across Daisy and Donald Duck.
