01/04/2021 Thursday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Team T&D.

Team T&D hiked out and met up with Lesley at the NAR. As they walked out they were mentioning how they hadn't seen any seals on the way out. Well they were rewarded when they got to the point. There were four seals and they were able to make some quick IDs; Luana RN58, Ka'ena RO40, R3CU and Squinty R330. Makes one wonder if the boys were following Luana.

They went to check the other beach and found two more seals. PvKauai RW02 was keeping RL98 Lina company. They were thrilled to have six seals, but their day wasn't over. Dave walked around the corner and surprise there was a 7th seal tucked up against the rock, it was Kami RL74. With so many seals and so high up a lot of outreach and education was done between Team T&D and Lesley.

On their way out they were hoping for one more, but thought chances were slim. But Napua RK40 just

hauled out as they got to the beach, fulfilling their wish for an 8 seal day. Along with all those critters there were lots of whales and Albatross chicks.

Team Billand started at the outfall with three seals foraging in extremely rough surf. They were able to ID Kaale RH32 and N14 Kalani. Unfortunately they couldn't get an id on the 3rd. Barb used a quote from DB water was so "victory at sea".  They watched a seal leave the outfall and they followed it all the way to tracks. Ka'ale RH32 hauled out alone. They waited around to see if the others would come but they didn't. Team Billand left and returned to check on Ka'ale to find there was three seals together snoozing.  The three boys Kaale, Kalani and RG28 Lefty.

When they arrived at another west side location it looked empty until they saw a flipper move. There was RH36 Kawena very well hidden in the rocks. She is looking nice and plump.

At another location they saw two people looking at something so they pulled the car over. Sure enough there was a seal. Nalu R3CX was snoozing on shore. While watching over Nalu they spotted another seal cruising by. They followed it to the wall and the seal was closer and looking around. It was Kekoa Alii RK72 checking out who was around.

On their way home they checked out the surfers at yoks.
