Marilyn checked several east side sites today and did not find any critters. She was able to go onto the Pier today and viewed Rabbit Island from 11:15 to 12:45. She spotted two seals near the 1BS.
An unknown female U/F, juvenile to sub-adult size, cream colored female belly and two tags.
The other seal was an unknown male U/M, adult male, mottled male belly and at least one tag. Marilyn suspects this may be RG32 but did not have anything to confirm it. Also it looks like some Sooty Terns were above Rabbit Island.
Team Billand stopped at the outfall at 7:30 am this morning. They spotted two seals foraging, they were only able get a positive ID on one critter. They ID'd Aukai RL12 by her infamous spear scar on her shoulder area. They could not ID the other seal with her.
Team Billand got a text of a seal at KoOlina, they arrived at 8:15 and once again found RO28 Pohaku. She was in the lagoon just logging on her side once again. The signs from yesterday were still in place. Team Billand called NOAA directly to express their concern over Pohaku's behavior, as in the past there have been concerns when a seal spends more time logging and not hauling out.
Team Billand stuck around for another hour and a half, and had to to leave the site for an appointment.
Team Billand returned to the site at 3 pm and found volunteers on site and by 4 the NOAA Team arrived at the Lagoon. At just after 5 pm Pohaku floated to mid lagoon and left the site with the currents. The good news is the necessary professionals are aware and monitoring Pohaku's behavior and condition.
