Marilyn actually met up with Team Billand on the west side this morning and still managed to spend an hour this afternoon viewing Rabbit Island from the pier.
There were five seals on island, four of them on Left Point Beach side of the 1BS and one seal alone by the 3rd blue sign.
A group of three critters included two unknown juveniles (UJ#1 and UJ#2) and one unknown sub-adult - adult male (UM). The 4th seal was another unknown juvenile (UJ#3). Marilyn was unable to get a clear view of any of their bellies.
The critter near the 3BS was an unknown juvenile female (UJF).
All five seals had tags.
Team Billand went to the outfall and found RN14 Kalani foraging. He was the only seal there today and did not hang around for very long. Marilyn caught up with Team Billand.
Just before 9 am they headed over to a west side beach and initially they didn't see any seals, but Marilyn's seal sonar sense was on and she spotted flippers sticking out of the rocks. They were able to get a read on the tags and it was Kawena RH36. She was way up most likely due to the huge surf.
Team Billand got a call of two seals at KoOlina and before they left the site, a seal was hauling out. It was Kekoa RK72 slithering his way to lower rocks. Once he made it up on the rocks, a huge set came in and the waves took him right back out to sea. They never saw him again.
When they arrived at KoOlina they found Kolohe RW22 already roped off with signs up, put by one of the folks at paradise cove. Thank you good Samaritan !
Then about 10 they spotted RH92 Nalani who also had a protected zone around her. Team Billand stuck around and educated the folks that were gathering. When the volunteer arrived Team Billand headed out.
Back to the west side to check on Kawena and anyone else that might have arrived. Upon arrival they sae a greenish seal with lots of cookie scars foraging off shore. He never landed but they were able to ID RG28 Lefty.
Lastly they spotted the little guy RL20 Kalua coming in and he headed right for Kawena RH36. She wike up and not really thrilled to see the kid, but tolerated him RL20 went closer to her putting his chin on her butt to rest and catch his breath. She moved, flipped her hind flippers and he rook off passing by her. She then put her hind flippers right on his butt, so he couldn't move! HA!
The waves kept coming in and eventually Kawena left but little Kalua stayed.
