January 26, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies:

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team Billand,  Marilyn and Lesley. Lesley provided an update for two days.

Marilyn spent her Saturday on Makai Pier viewing Rabbit Island from 10:25 am than 12:25 pm. Conditions were cold, windy and the heat waves off the water made it more of a challenge.  When Marilyn first arrived she saw two critters both up in the morning glory (keeping warm :-)

UAM Unknown Adult Male - near the 1BS male belly and unsure about tags. After a while the seal moved down from the morning glory onto the sand.

UU Unknown/Unknown - near the 3BS was up in the morning glory the entire time. Marilyn was unable to determine size, sex or anything else about this critter.
RK37 juvenile seal hauled out about 10 minutes after she arrived and immediately moved up near some beach debris near 1BS. Marilyn believes this is one of the 2018 pups based on size. She thinks there was a NB on her left side, although the belly is fairly green.

Team Billand arrived at a westside beach and spotted three critters on lower rocks in the morning. There was another seal off shore doing 6 minute dives. Team Billand managed to get a look at the tags.
The three critters on the lower rocks were ID'd as RIP RR70 with Kawena RH36. Barbara noted the difference in size between to two is unreal.  The third critter was Kekoa Alii RK72 to their right, also on the lower rocks. He was sacked out and barely moved.
The seal foraging off shore was RW02 PvKauai. They got a tag shot while foraging. When Team Billand came back to check on the other critters, RW02 had hauled out. All four seals were snoozing together peacefully.

Team Billand headed over to KoOlina and found two males on shore resting. BOTH had applied bleaches and are readable (Oh Happy Day!!!! - Thank you NOAA).  The duo was Kolohe and Kalani.
Kolohe RW22 and Kalani RN14 hanging out maybe waiting for one the girls.
