It was so good to receive an email from Vicki! She was on the north shore today, when she stopped off in Hauula and found R5AY Honey Girl. A volunteer was already on site. Vicki also went to Turtle Bay but the winds and rain came and she didn't stay.
Melody had a surprise visit today from H92. She got a text and a knock on her door from neighbors telling her a seal had just arrived at cove 7. Melody got down there and was able to immediately ID RH92 by her tag. She arrived in the exact spot she was in the last time she visited. Melody informed the hotline and had a few visitors before the storm arrived. That did not deter Melody or RH92, as they both hung out for a couple of hours. Once the storm moved on, so did H92, but not before Melody got a photo of her with a beautiful rainbow.
Team Billand found Rip RR70 resting in high surf washing over him on lower rocks. His tags were visible making it easy for an ID. Initially he was the only one there and while they were checking their photos a second seal appeared and slithered pass RIP. They were able to ID Kekoa RK72, RIP vocalized, but Kekoa just kept going and hauled up to the right of RIP. They both finally settled for a long nap.
On Team Billand's afternoon check both were still in snooze mode,
but now there was another critter. They ID's Kawena RH36 on the lower rocks to the left and alone. There was no interaction between her and the boyz. She is looking healthy, clean coat, and a good size.
Late morning Team Billand checked another west side beach and they find one, RW02 PvKauai was on shore. They looked him over and he seems fine, in his usual layed-back manner. They checked on him through out the day and he was still there at the end of their day.
Team Billand had received multiple calls about a critter on shore at Plains. One of the calls informed them of a Military group having an event close by, but the lifeguards were out and had put up a zone.
When Team Billand arrived they found Miss Pohaku R028 on shore in the protected area and lots of folks at a picnic. Rob spent time with the folks giving them monk seal 101 and answering lots of questions. Team Billand hung out on site for a bit and then had to leave. Pohaku looks good, nice girth, getting chubby and no new markers.
In the meantime the whales were having a party!
