Jan 5, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies:

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Marilyn and Lesley. Lesley's Ka'ena Point Update is part 2 of the dailies. Marilyn was with Lesley this morning on their Saturday trek and she still managed to make a couple stops on her way home to find a couple of other critters.

Team Billand was at Paradise Cove before 6am. When they arrived there was da Benny at his usual spot, near the tree. They called the hotline. Team Billand put up a zone and waited for a bit before they left to pickup junior sealette Oliva.  On their way to get their grandpup they enjoyed a beautiful sunrise over Honolulu.

After picking up Olivia they headed west and at one of the usual stops, they spotted a seal foraging offshore doing 5 minute dives. They could not make an ID after watching for quite some time, they did see a scar left of the head and scar on right side of face, and clean coat. A couple of divers were in the water, they spotted the UU, and the seal spotted them, the divers went in the opposite direction. No disturbance at all.

Checking out the area Team Billand found RW02 PvKauai alone at lower rocks snoozing, flipping right and left to find a comfortable position on the rocks. He was there for the day.
RW02 wasn't the only critter hanging out in the area, Team Billand found RIP RR70 and Kekoa RK72. They were snoozing together on the rocks all day. They got along just fine all day.

After Marilyn finished the Ka'ena Point trek she checked a couple beaches on the way home. As luck would have it RI37 IPO was
resting peacefully on the sand near the water. She was ID by her female belly, I37 tag and her signature scar near her right hind flipper. She is looking healthy and a bit green. Marilyn hadn't seen her in a long time so this was treat.... and I KNOW it would have been way cool if Sadie was around.

Once Marilyn got back to the east side she stopped at ADs and found RiKT on the rock flats. Volunteers had put up 2 signs.  He was ID'd by the scar on his shoulder near his left front flipper and T37 tag.
