This morning Team Billand was out there checking out the usual haul out areas, when they came up to a west side beach and there were two people very close to a seal. Team Billand advised them to move back to give the seal some space, They moved back and turns out one of them was an old volunteer with MSF. Team Billand called the hotline, ID'd RW02 PvKauai and waited for an hour before heading off to other locations. On their afternoon check volunteer Melina was there and had put out signs.
Team Billand did a lot of searching throughout the day and in the end they only found a total of three critters. The waves were big, tide was high and finally the found the last two critters.
Both seals were on lower rocks in snooze mode. They were able to ID RK72 Kekoa Alii and RN14 Kalani. Funny how RN14 disappears for a while, wonder where he goes? But as Barbara stated, she happy he is back. Kekoa Alii and Kalani were side by side resting peacefully.
The two were still there when Team Billand returned from their Ka'ena West trek.
Today Tammy was solo out at Ka'ena point and checked all the usual spots and to the point there were no seals. She decided to wait around to see if anyone would show up, but instead she got to watch quite a show put on by the humpback whales.
On Tammy's way back she spotted Luana RN58 at Hidden Beach. She is looking nice and plump and was resting peacefully.
Tammy also found a "couple" at 10 minute beach. She was able to ID RL42 Leia by her visible tag, and R330 Squinty ID'd by the line scar on head and NB inside his RRF.
Last but certainly not least Tammy found little Napua RK40 at birth beach. She was well hidden which is a good thing for this little cutie.
