Team Billand started off at Plains looking for seals when they got a call from a frantic surfer, saying there was a seal being chased by two guys. Team Billand ran up on shore and there was a seal coming their way by the cabins and two military guys running along the beach shoreline. Team Billand called out and they stopped by the Lifeguard stand.
Team Billand followed the shoreline to see where the seal was going, finally they spotted the seal pass windsock and onto Nimitz. Seal slowed down and began foraging. Team Billand waited at Nimitz, but the seal never landed, and lost sight of him. When they viewed their photos they were able to ID RIP RR70 by the scar over his eye and ding on his back.
Team Billand headed over to a westside beach and upon arrival met up with volunteer Melina. There was a seal on high rocks and one on lower rocks. The seal on the lower was RW22 Kolohe, and it took some time before the critter on high rocks moved. Finally they could ID Kekoa Alii RK72.
Team Billands' next find was early afternoon at Puka Pants, they spotted a seal on shore. It was RW02 PvKauai and they noticed a lot of footprints around him. There were no signs out. As they drove away they could see some kids running down to him. Its too bad the seals have to put up with this.
Team Billand out at another westside beach spotted a seal quite hidden in the rocks. They went around kept looking but wasn't able to get anything. Barb decided to walk down a bit which was really unpleasant because one, the glass is taller than her, and two it was loaded with creepy spiders and webs. She could see the seal, but it had moved so she had to go around to the other side to make the ID. FINALLY she spotted the tags and it was RL42 Leia. They left site immediately to not draw attention to her.
Team Billand made the Ka'ena West trek there were no seals, BUT there were whales!
