Jan 4, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Lesley, Team Billand, Melody and our posse pal Vicki !!!
Warms my heart to be starting off the new year with our posse out there finding lots of critters.

Lesley sent a quick note that she found Ka'ena RO40 in front of their beach access from the Lyman estate. Thankfully it was before the skies opened up.

Team Billand went over to Nimitz and before 8 am they spotted some movement in the water and rocks. There was a seal hauling in up on the rocks. They were able to ID Pohaku RO28 and she is looking good. She's been moving around a lot on the west side and other spots on the island.

Team Billand headed over to a usual haul out spot and got lucky when they found a party.
First critter they ID'd was RIP RR70 on left top rocks alone snoozing on his belly.

The on the lower rocks there were two critters snoozing together. Kekoa Alii RK72 was to the right of RW02 PvKauai keeping his eye on him. RW02 later galumphed to the shallows to cool off and then right back up on the rocks with Kekoa.

Then there was Kaale RH32, he was the one seal who stayed in one position all day.  Aside from an occasional stretch now and then. Amazing they can stay in one position all day.

As if the gang up on the rocks wasn't enough they spot a seal foraging off shore doing 7 minute dives. They couldn't make and an ID so it was reported as a UU.

Team Billand last find of the day was RL42 Leia alone sleeping in a well hidden spot. They were able to ID her by her tag.

I got news today from our old Posse Pal Vicki and as happy as I am to hear from her I was thrilled to get the updates from her on day.
The first sighting was while she was on the North Shore side and came across the beautiful Sadie RB12. It's not often we get photos of Sadie up close, usually its when she visits Rabbit Island and photos are taken an 8th of a mile away.

A short time later a little further north, Vicki found another bathing beauty Right Spot R016 in one of her old favorite locations. It was an unfortunate situation in that a volunteer had been on site and when they left, a onlooker stole the opportunity to enter the SPA to get closer for that dam photo.

The last email I got today was from Melody with an update about Rocky RH58. Melody got a text
first thing this morning that Rocky hauled out on her beach.  The hotline and security were called and signs were already there when Melody arrived. Melody was told by some neighbors that Rocky had done some foraging by the reefs before she hauled out.  When Melody arrived she was on the sand by the morning glory in snooze mode. Volunteer Kristina arrived and stay for a bit and did a health assessment. Rocky is looking really good and healthy.  After volunteer left Melody stayed for the day and when she left shortly after sunset Rocky was still snoozing on the beach.
