June 30, 2024 Sunday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:10 to 2:50 pm and there five seals on island and no humans.
On the beach near the LPB surge channel was RH76 Kala and her pup PO8. Marilyn only had a front view of them for her entire viewing session. At 2:19 pm, she saw they had entered the water in the surge channel and went for a swim. They did not haul out again during her watch.
In the middle of LPB was a molting RK37 Huia. She only got a brief
look at her ventral side and would estimate her molt at about 35%. She was ID'd by adult size, older coat and two red tags.
At 1:45 pm, Marilyn became aware that RL12 Aukai and her adopted pup PO3 were hauling out on the 1BS side of LPB. Marilyn described PO3 galumphing up the beach as "blubber butt". Although the nickname Manapua still comes to mind. He has now nursed on Aukai for four weeks after being nursed by his mom RF34 Pua for six weeks.  Aukai still looks large so one wonders how much longer they will be together.

Team R&B checked out the west side with very little luck. They found one seal at Kahe. TM31 Kai was alone on the rocks snoozing.  Guess his buddies from yesterday were off to other locations.

Since there wasn't much happening on the west side they took another drive out to visit with Rocky and P10.
When they arrived they saw five turtles, the waves were pushing them about and they just came back sometimes they were tossed upside
down.
Rocky RH58 and P10 were basically in the same spot as yesterday. They were in snooze mode for the entire time Team R&B were there.
Team R&B noted quite a few more pukas in the fencing, hopefully someone will repair it .

June 29, 2024 Saturday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:05 to 3:40 and there six seals seen during that time.  Unfortunately there were seven kayaks and nine people on the island. Extremely frustrating Marilyn called DOCARE and submitted information on the DLNR tip app. Marilyn did get a call back saying they would try and get an officer out. Marilyn doesn't know if anyone came out, the kayakers did leave the at 3:30 pm. Marilyn doesn't know if they were met by officers when they returned to Kaupo Beach Park.
RH76 Kala and PO8 were on the rock flats Lanikai side of LPB. The pup looked huge in todays photos. Kala vocalized multiple times when some of the kayakers were near her and the pup. After the kayakers headed back to their kayaks, PO8 nursed.
RL12 Aukai and her adopted pup PO3 were barely visible above waterfront rocks between Middle Cliff and 3BS. Marilyn could not tell if Aukai reacted when the kayakers walked by her on two occasions.
On the rock flats next to SRI were two seals:
Adult Male: adult size, darker coat, dark brown male belly and two red tags.
The AM was next to RK37 Hui who is about 30% molted. She was ID'd by her adult size, lighter female belly and nb on lower left side.

Team R&B decided to leave the west side and go explore. As many already know Rocky RH58 gave birth to P10 on sand island. They went to see the ol' gal and her new pup who is a little boy. They also discovered the pup has a white nail (possibly another bleach mark).  They said this little boy is one active bugga, they saw a nursing session, watched him navigate around
mom for a snooze.
They saw a couple of surfers walk into the zone and out through a a hole in the fence. Team R&B informed the volunteer on site.
Along with Mom and pup there were lots of terns flying around, they even spotted an egret catch a lizard.

Heading back to the west side and stopping at Kahe they were thrilled to find three males resting on the rocks. Kalua RL20 who is looking all grown up, fat and healthy. (that's probably from all the fish he
steals). Then there was RM31 Kai resting looking very relaxed.
The third male took some time to ID. They even consulted with the posse for help. Finally it was determined this was R617 Kimo. He is looking quite big, and they did see some markers that confirmed his ID. On his head there is a double line scar, not to mention a scar on his right cheek and a black dot on his chest area.

June 28, 2024 Friday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:20 to 2:40 and there were five seals seen during that time.
Kala RH76 and PO8 were on shore between 1BS and 2BS. They were mostly in snooze mode, but Marilyn did see one nursing session. PO8 is four weeks old as of June 27th. PO8 seems to be putting on the pounds and Kala still seems to have adequate reserves.
Marilyn saw PO3 in the water offshore of Kala and PO8, but had not seen RL12 Aukai until around 2:25 pm. Aukai and her adopted pup
PO3 hauled out on the 3BS side of Middle Cliff. Aukai soon moved behind waterfront rocks and was completely hidden, but Marilyn could still see the top of PO3's back and he seemed to be nursing.
There was an Unknown Adult on the rock flats next to SRI. Marilyn thinks this seal has started molting on its left chest area. Her guess is this is RK37 who looks to be about 10% into the molt. Since she didn't see her belly or nb on left side, Marilyn could not confirm.
Both Masked Booby parents were with the chick today.

Team R&B were at the bay watching the dolphins and the boats filled with passengers. The dolphins were right up near the feet of the passengers who were thrilled to have the close encounter. While watching dolphins they spotted a seal swimming by. They got a couple of quick pics but were not able to get an ID.

Stopping at Kahe they found only one seal. It was Kai RM31 alone on the rocks.

The only other seal they found today was R3CX Nalu. He was alone today without the company of a female.
