Gayle headed up to visit with Luana and PO5 on Tuesday. She and a friend found out that Luana had weaned the kid. PO5 looking nice and plump and very active. He was swimming for a few hours and then finally settled down in the rocks.
Gayle also got to visit with her #1 Kaiwi RK96. Looks like Kaiwi made herself a nice nook to rest and away from the crowds in Waikiki.
Team T&D watched over Mauna PO5 this morning. When arriving on site Lesley informed them hewas in the water on her dawn patrol. They watched him swim down the beach, play with multiple things; sea cucumber, rock and a stick. He went back into the water for a few hours. Then there was an adult seal swimming by, there was no interaction. The adult seal kept swimming by and hauled out down the beach. They ID'd Ka'ena RO40.
Soon after PO5 hauled out NOAA arrived and gave Mauna his bling. His tags are Q24/Q25 looking quite chunky.
Team R&B arrived a location and saw what they thought was two seals. They studied the animal and then noticed it was only one seal RL70 Leina. She has her butt in the air and her head in the water.
To their delight, after searching all morning they found the lovely RH48 Lei Ola in the company of RH32 Kaale. They're thinking the reason they can't find any seals is because the males are busy chasing the females around.
Team R&B were heading home, disappointed they weren't seeing more seals. While still at a location they spotted a moving seal high up on shore. They headed over and was surprised to find RN04 Kainoa with RL42 Leia.
Kainoa was pestering her, and RL42 did her best to avoid him. He would inch his big body up to her, she moved, he moved. Then people came by to take pictures. Needless to say Team R&B was happy to find RN04 and RL42 so far west.
