Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island for only about 10 minutes today due to the howling winds and overcast skies. There was only one seal on island during her brief observation. The seal is reported as an Unknown Male U/M: subadult size, male belly and unsure about tags.
Team R&B had a meet up with Kilali Gibson from NOAA. Team R&B arrived on site at 7 am with drizzles and of course no seals. At 7:42 they spotted a seal swimming after leaving the bait ball. The seal came around the rocks, waited for a strong surge to come up on the rocks. They could see it was RL20 Kalua who galumphed over the rocks and kept moving high up inland and pretty hidden. When Ms. Gibson arrived they asked if she could see the seal, then they pointed out how well hidden he was. (Of course they also watched him haul in)
They met up at another site and no seals were anywhere, so they sat on the bench. While there a woman came by with her daughter looking for dolphins. The woman is 91 and enjoys a visit to the beach once a week. They all got to talk story.
Then they spotted some dolphins hanging out, on a occasion making a few jumps. Happy that the older woman got to see the dolphins this week.
And eagle eyes Team R&B spotted a seal on the rocks. They hurried over and ID'd RL08, who still has a cyst on his right rump. RL08 remained on the rocks alone. They all departed.
RM31 Kai was at the seal inlet alone. He was snoozing the cloudy day away.
Lastly there was Leina RL70 to the right of the water front rocks. She was just hanging out relaxing.
