Yesterday's News: Rabbit Island November 29, 2024

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from Makai Pier from 12:31 to 2:42 pm. It was almost completely overcast with light winds.

There were ultimately five HMS seen on RI during my viewing session.

There were initially four seals between 3BS and SRI:

RK24 Wawamalu/Bruno: adult male, newer coat, lighter ventral, male belly, two red tags and a scar on the right rear side.
Close by was what I'm labeling an unknown juvenile (UJ): large weaner to juvenile size, two red tags; never saw ventral so don't know sex.
A short distance away was Adult Male 1 (AM1): adult size, old coat, brown male belly; not sure about tags.

Initially a short distance in the Makapuu direction from the AM1 was Adult Male 2 (AM2): adult size, old coat, medium to darker brown male belly and at least one red tag. This seal later moved closer to the other three seals and after that moved further away.

At 2:03 pm a fifth seal hauled out on the Makapuu side of the other four seals. I'm labeling this seal as an Adult Female (AF): adult size, newer coat, sand-covered gray female belly and two red tags.
