Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:49 to 2:21 pm and there were six seals during that time.
On the 1BS side of LPB was Adult Male 1: adult size, dark coat, dark male belly, unsure about tags.
About 20 feet Makapuu of the 1BS was Adult Male 2: adult size, brown coat, medium brown male belly, unsure about tags.
At 2:00 pm, Marilyn saw a seal had hauled out between 1BS and2BS. She believes this was R416 Makali'i: subadult size newer coat, light male belly with distinctive scars and dark patches and no tags. It appears R416 has either a wound on his lower lip or a large hook.
Makapuu of the 3BS were two seals:
Unknown Sub-adult: sub-adult size, newer coat, light ventral, unsure about sex or tags.
RK24 Bruno: adult size, newer coat, light to medium gray male belly and two red tags.
Up from SRI was weaner RT19: normal weaner size, light golden male belly, and two red tags.
At about 1:00 pm, Dave from Sea Engineering informed Marilyn that "N22" was swimming under the pier. Marilyn took her camera and headed over to see. Weaner RT62 with her applied N22 bleach was foraging under the pier with 5-6 minute dives. She looks small but healthy. Marilyn watched for about 30 minutes then went back to observe Rabbit Island.
Tammy met up with Lesley and they headed out to the point today. It was windy with a little chill in the air, fall in Hawaii. Their first findwas R330 Squinty, who has started his molt.
Next was a surprise find RS32. They last saw her out there a couple of weeks ago. This is Kaimana''s 2023 little girl.
In other exciting news the first Laysan Albatross of the season landed at Ka'ena Point.
While out at the point they found RG32.
There were lots of wedgies out of their burrows and looking like their ready to fledge.
On their way back they found RT98 Leia's little girl. She was hauled out at her little piece of the beach.
Their last find for the day was RW02 PvKauai, who has started his molt.
Team R&B started their day at Pokai where they found a female seal. They spent time studying her and were happy to ID RH76 Kala. She seemed alert while on the beach.
The dolphins were out in full force today. It never gets old seeing them out there, doing what they do best.
Heading over to rest-camp there were multiple seals out there again. All the seals came to forage and are out there all day. Today one of the big tour boats came into the area and slowly moved closer in to the seals. The lifeguard came on the megaphone and loudly announced "Boat out there, please move away from the seals. Stay away 50 yards, people are watching you, people have cameras and the DLNR will site you. Seemed that did the trick! Big kudos to the lifeguard.
One of the first seals to be ID'd was R3CX. Team R&B noted his coat is looking a little strange.
The next seals to be ID'd were RH48 Lei Ola and RL20 Kalua. They thought there might have been another seals but couldn't be sure.
Team R&B headed back to pokai for a recheck. Kala RH76 was no longer there but there was another seal in her spot. There was RM31 Kai resting on the edge of the rocks.
Their last stop was at yoks. They had been searching for RP28 sinceyesterday. When they were ready to leave they saw what looked like a rock. It was RP28 way up inland snoozing. Now they understand why they didn't see him yesterday. He is well hidden and molting. They knew he was ready to molt, and it looks like his face and sides are well on the way. Looks like it will go fast.
