November 1, 2024 Friday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:42 to 2:57 pm and there were six seals seen during that time.
Initially there were two seals about 20 feet Makapuu of the 1BS:
Adult Male: adult size, old coat, brown male belly, at least one red tag on RRF, possible small nb mid-ventral and another nb on inside of one of the rear flippers. Marilyn thought it might be R330 Squinty and she did see what appeared to be a bare patch on the front dorsal
area. As far as she knows R330 has never been reported on Rabbit Island. In another photo she saw what looked like a single line bleach which would suggest this might be RG32. (but he doesn't have tags)
Nearby was weaner RT19: weaner size, yellow male belly and two red tags.
There was also a fledging Wedge-tailed shearwater on the beach near RT19.
At 1:43 pm, a third seal arrived and this was a Juvenile Female: juvenile size, newer coat, light female belly and two red tags.
Then at 2 pm, a fourth seal arrived. This was RP24 Mohala: sub-adult size, newer coat, female belly, two red tags and a nb on the tip of her LFF. She appears to have a substantial scar on her left lower lip, probably form a fish hook.
Between 1BS and 2BS was R7AF: sub-adult size, new coat, light gray male belly and two red tags
Closer to 2BS was RK24 Bruno: adult size, new coat, light male belly and two red tags.

Team R&B spotted a seal at tracks so they went to check it out. The
seal had a clean coat, numerous cc scars and when it flipped on its side they saw a big scar on top of her head. That's what they needed to confirm R604, who they hadn't seen for a while.  She appears to have yet another cc under belly.
They noticed paw prints near her, there was a small black dog from the nearby camp that had paid her a visit.

They then headed over to pokai where they found the Unknown Male who they they believe to be R617. He as alone up at the grassy area.
He was there all day, they did a recheck three times and he was alone on all their visits.

They went to check out the rest-camp area. Studying the water for hours they saw three seals foraging. Seems there was a lot of interaction/fighting today. The seal with the mint green snout was RH48 Lei Ola. Next there was RL20 Kalua who was vocal at times and then there was a very green seal who turned out to be RH32 Kaale.

Stopping at Makaha to check on Nalu R3CX. He was alone and sleeping on his back. His molt has progressed really fast, he looks to be about 75% done. They didn't see his back but the rest of him was really clean except for his flippers.

A quick stop at cliffs they found RL42 Leia. She was alone and sound a sleep on the rocks.  The waves were coming in moving her around like jello, but she stayed.  Team R&B did not stay long.
Another quick stop at yoks they were happy to find the green pickle RP28. He was sleeping on shore looking quite green. They hope they get to see him molt soon.

They made one last stop back at pokai and were very happy they did. Kaale RH32 was on the rocks snoozing after a day of feasting and fighting. He is huge and is green and still a very special butthead.
