Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:15 to 1:40 pm and there were three seals seen during that time.
Alone on the 1BS side of LPB was RK24 Bruno: adult size, light gray male belly, two red tags, scar on rear left side and another on the lower lip. A fledging shearwater was near RK24 and then it was joined by a sooty tern.
Sub-adult Male: sub-adult to adult size, dark coat, dark gray male belly and at least one red tag. Marilyn believes this is the same seal she labeled as an unknown sub-adult yesterday.
Juvenile Male: weaner to juvenile size, older coat, light golden male belly and two red tags.
Team R&B's first stop at pokai they spotted a fat seal hauling up on the rocks. When they got closer they ID'd the lovely Kala RH76, looking mighty fine. She fought off the waves and managed to stay put and continued her rest.
Team R&B hung out in the area for a while and didn't see any additional animals. They walked down a bit and that is when they saw another seal coming in. They waited and was able to ID RM31 Kai, who was very alert and somewhat agitated. He finally found a spot to rest and went into snooze mode.
Next stop was at Kahe where they found their favorite male RK72 Kekoa Alii. He was on the rocks alone just resting. He got washed over by the waves several time, but he just turned around and went to sleep. He is a big seal and still looking green. He kept looking out, and Team R&B knew something was up.
Sure enough there was a bobbing head looking at the rocks. The seal came around to Kekoa's location where the seal would haul out. It was RS32 the sweet little female, looking and doing just fine. Kekoa Alii being a good "uncle" kept an eye on her.
Then they spotted a seal from afar at yoks with lots of folks close by. So Team R&B headed over finding people were close playing football and having a good ole' time. The ball landed by the seal and one person went over to retrieve it. Team R&B called the hotline, informed them of the situation and asked for a volunteer.
The seal was RG28 Lefty is molting. They couldn't see if the hook was still there due to the pillow of sand he made for himself, although they could see the line.
Some people were taking photos, selfies, he'll be all over social media in no time. Lefty was aware of all the people, he would just look at them. He probably didn't take off because he was molting. Team R&B went over to the life guards and let them know about him.
Lastly as they were leaving they took another look from afar andspotted another seal. This seal had a couple of signs and an orange flag around it. So of course they headed over to find RP28 the cute male from Kauai. Team R&B have given him the name Wakea. They have been thinking about one for a while and wanted to give him something that fit him. They thought about Makau where they first found him but that means fish hook, needless to say they came up with another name. Wakea means expansive space, heavens. In mythology - Wakes is god of light & the heavens. Quite beautiful!
