Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:30 to 2:20 pm and there were four seals seen during that time.
Just Makapuu of the 1BS were two seals:
Adult Male 1: adult size, old coat, brown male belly and at least one tag on th RFF.
At SRI was Adult Male 2: adult size, newer coat, sand-covered gray male belly, not sure about tags. This is likely RK24, but Marilyn just couldn't be sure.
At 1:25 pm Marilyn found a seal hauled out on the far Makapuu side of RRB: Unknown Unknown: the seal never changed its position, guessing it is sub-adult size with newer coat.
One of the adult Masked Boobies was on the crater rim and about 60 feet away was the juvenile Masked Booby. There were lots of sooty terns flying around. They are beginning to settle down.
Team R&B's first visit to Pokai this morning they found their Unknown Male who they really believe to be R617. He is completely molted and looking so white and shiny in the hot sun.
They also found the lovely female RH76. She was just 10 feet of R617. The two of them just slept and remained there all day.
From afar they saw four seals moving very quickly away from each other. There were so many people in the water, surfers, boogie boars, boats, canoes on and on. The seals seemed very unsettled, Team R&B could hear them.
They headed over to rest-camp to see. They found RH48 Lei Ola, RL20 Kalua. Then much to their surprise they saw a seal that looked like it was still molting, well it was Nalu R3CX.
They had checked Makaha and he wasn't there today. Their not sure when or why he left the area. They did note lots of dog prints in the area where he had been yesterday.
Team R&B spotted a seal from afar at yoks. They could see there were a couple of signs up, so they headed over. When they got to area they were upset to see two men standing right next to the seal. The seal was RG28 Lefty. Team R&B asked them to step away, and there was a little bit of a push back. Team R&B explained the seals are an endangered specie and are protected under the federal endangered species act.
Thankfully they moved on, but Lefty had many visitors today. Thankfully none got up close and personal like those two. Team R&B decided to stick around since it was so busy. One dude arrived with a huge camera lens, he stood behind the signs knowing he wasbeing watched. He made a comment that sleeping seals are boring, that he would wait for the seal to move. So this made Team R&B stay longer. Finally it got too hot so they headed out.
Before calling it a day they made one last check at pokai. They were glad they did, because along with R617 and RH76 there was RM31 Kai. He was alone on the rocks snoozing the day away.
