Tammy hiked Ka'ena Point today with Lesley. Their first find was not a seal but a Glaoucous Winged Gull. Down the beach from the gull was Ka'ena RO40. It doesn't appear he has started his molt yet, although he is due.
In the NAR, the Laysan Albatross are back, they saw seven today.
On back beach they found Lefty RG28. While they were there he left back beach and came around into the main pool.
Their last find was Squinty R330. He is almost finished with his molt.
Team R&B started at a west side location and found a seal further out on water front rocks. They wereable to get close enough to zoom in and see it was RH76 Kala alone and resting.
Continuing onto their next stop, they found RH32 Kaale. He was back at his spot at the greenery. He seemed very alert, but doing just fine. They estimated he is about 40% molted.
Next stop they spotted two seals on shore having a nap by each other. One was the lovely Aukai RL12. They noted her right fore flipper looks like its healing only some pink on the wound.
Next to her was big biy RN14 Kalani. There were signs up close to the rocks so Team R&B checked it out. To their surprise there was a seal hidden.
RN14 entered the water, pooped and pee'd (at least he didn't do it on shore). He went over the rocks where Kekoa was snoozing. Kalani very gingerly "tip toed" up high to get a look at Kekoa who rolled over. They looked at each other, then Kalani quietly slithered out to sea, heading towards town.
Kekoa saw he was gone and looked over to Aukai on shore, the boy just stayed put. (smart move)
A volunteer came on scene and Team R&B headed out about 1:00.
