07/12/2022 Tuesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕.

At the time of this writing Marilyn is still sorting through her photos of her Rabbit Island observations. It was a big day today in that NOAA made it out to the island to tag weaner PO6. (I will post when Marilyn's update arrives.)

Team R&B started their day at the outfall. They found two seals foraging, and if I were a fisher I would have just given up for the day. Foraging was RL20 Kalua and RH32 Kaale, the two fish thieves.  Not sure if they were just foraging or if they actually stole anything today.
Around 10ish Kaale headed for the rocks, but he looked around and left.

Team R&B got word there were three seals out at Makua Beach and there was somebody that kept bugging the seals. Someone had called the cops and all the seals took off.
When they went to check out the area, they saw one seal, an adult on the shore alone. They were only to get a photo from a distance and then the seal left. It was reported as an unknown/unidentified.

They went to the next beach and immediately saw two guys looking at something. Sure enough they were really close to a seal that was R3CX Nalu who was sleeping.  Team R&B told them to move back and stay fifty feet away, and
thankfully they moved.
But them another young woman saw the two men at the seal and asked if they were visitors? You need to give that seal space and stay at least fifty feet away. Mahalo.  Both guys left.
Knowing how frustrating this is, I do think there is a ray of sunshine, in that there are more locals/residents speaking up to people that are too close to the seals.

Once again they made the Ka'ena West hike and didn't see any seal out there. They checked one more spot and got lucky.  They saw an adult seal with two white nails, and applied bleach with a N. They kept looking from different perspectives and finally realized it was Lefty RG28.

Their last find of the day was a big male. They pulled over to check out this seal who was sleeping on shore. There were kids playing in the water.  There was Kalani RN14 alone. Suddenly a man walked with his dog passing the seal. Kalani leaped up and barked at the dog, the man kept going. Maybe he didn't see the seal (it happens).  The man and his dog did leave shortly after, and Kalani remained on the beach.
