07/10/2022 Sunday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Gayle, Marilyn and Team R&B💕

In yesterday's news Gamma Gayle sent photos of Rocky and PO8. I unfortunately could only access one of the photos, my account is messed up.  I was happy to hear that Gayle was out with Rocky and pup.  They're going to need a lot of knowledgeable folks dealing with the crowds.  On the news tonight someone tried to pass the fencing with their children and was going to "pet" them. Thankfully that was put to a stop as soon as someone heard them say such a thing.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:05 to 2:05 today and there were a total of five seals on island today.
When she first arrived there was only one seal on shore. On RRB was a molting S/F: subadult size, newly molted light gray female belly, and two red tags. It appears she is about 45% molted. almost all of the ventral side was molted with some breaks on her sides. While viewing her at about 12:42, Marilyn saw a seal head bobbing up and down in the water. The seal spotted her and headed toward her over the rock flats.
Definitely cruiser behavior, although Marilyn could not see if it was a male. It was labled as a U/A. The S/F and U/A had some words and the S/F was not happy with the attention. About 1:11 the U/A had entered the water heading in the Lanikai direction. He later visited MO7 & PO7.
Marilyn got a brief glimpse of PO6 when she first arrived in the wave wash near the 1BS, but then lost sight of the weaner. About 12:20 PO6 hauled out between 1BS and 2BS, at the last place Marilyn saw the pup with MO6 on Friday. PO6 crawled around on the waterfront rocks then slowly made its way about another 60 feet closer to the 2BS. The weaner went into snooze mode.  Po6 seems to be doing normal weaner things and venturing further Makapuu side of the island.
About 12:35, MO7 and PO7 hauled out from their swim on LPB. They moved up  the beach and PO7
crawled on Mom until she rolled over so it could nurse.
About 1:15, Marilyn noticed the U/A hauled out from the Lanikai side of LPB and headed towards mom and pup. The closest it got to MO7 was about 10 feet. Marilyn did not see any reaction from MO7, but she kept an eye on him. He eventually turned around and moved in the Lanikai direction until he was a good distance away from MO7. He then went into snooze mode.

Team R&B heard some stories of a seal stealing fish again at the outfall, so they went to check. Sure enough there was a seal stealing fish, it was RL20 Kalua. While they were there he stole five fish even with the fishers frantically reeling in their catch. The little butthead never hauled out and Team R&B had to move onto other locations. (He is taking after the big butthead Kaale).

Next stop they watched a green snouted seal fiercely foraging. They thought it was RH32 Kaale based on this behavior of hunting the fish, but he was doing four minute dives and then would come up and immediately go back down.  The seal was heading their way, cautiously looking over the rocks. Thats when they noticed another seal, Nalu R3CX.  Kaale came in the are, Nalu dove into the shallows and they had a big fight. After they fought they both took off and Team R&B did not see either of them for the rest of the day.

Team R&B had a discussion about Kaale and Nalu are in the area, so
that must mean Leia RL42 is either hiding out somewhere or with RN14 Kalani.  Well sure enough they found the pair together Kalani and Leia. As they were taking their photos, a couple rushed down to the the seals and without hesitation ran up to both of them. The husband filmed his wife with the seals up close. Just as Team R&B could call out to them, a local male male yelled at them to get the $%^#$ away from those seals. The couple was a little shaken and took off to the hillside.   RN14 and RL42 moved up on the shore.
