In yesterday's news department Melody sent some photos of Rocky RH58 and PO8. Some of her photos show that PO8 not only has NB on her LFF like Momma, but also has a NB on the underside of her RFF too. Which will make IDing this little one a lot easier. They had a swim session yesterday too.
Just hauling out on the Lanikai side of LPB was weaner RQ76 (formerly known as PO6). She got her bling yesterday. She galumphed up to the cliff and around Aukai RL12 and her pup PO7. Then RQ76 moved into a depression in the beach and Marilyn only saw glimpses of her the rest of the afternoon.
Aukai RL12 and PO7 were mostly in snooze mode. They entered the water when it was raining and Marilyn had covered the camera. They hauled out about 4:05 and headed towards the 1BS. Marilyn could see PO7's temp tag on her LRF, but it doesn't look like the N1 applied bleach took. Aukai charged a seal that Marilyn believes to be RP24 Mohala when they were moving closer to 1BS.
Near the berm on the 1BS of LPB was a juvenile seal that appeared to be partially molted. Marilyn notices this seal had a distinctive natural bleach on the LFF, so this could be female RP24 Mohala, RF34 Pua's pup from 3/20/21. Hopefully she'll hang around for a few days and Marilyn can tell us more about her.
Unfortunately two throw net fishermen arrived on RI in kayaks during Marilyn's observation. One of the fishermen walked fairly close to RP24.
Alone near the 3BS was a molting subadult female who is most likely RK37 Huia. She was in the same location as yesterday when NOAA was on island. She appears to be about 70% molted.
And to add to everything else RIMPAC exercises are going on. Marilyn saw at least four Marine Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft doing maneuvers between Lanikai and Rabbit Island.
Team R&B were out today and had slim pickings. Finally at a west side location they found two seals.
RP30 Puka was on lower rocks resting. Kalani RN14 was over to the water front rocks, snoozing alone.
They had received many texts of a seals at a beach. They tried to get to the site as quickly as they could but when they arrived there was only one seal on shore. Pe'ekai RP84, who they are always happy to see, was alone on shore. There were lots of beach goers around asusual. Pe'ekai got hit by some big waves, so he moved his green body father up shore.
There were tons of dolphins out, which is always a pleasure to see.
Team R&B must have been out late because they sent a great photo of the super moon.
