07/01/2022 Friday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team T&D, Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:35 to 2:25 and there were five seals on island today.
When she first arrived she did not see MO6 and PO6. Then about 10 minutes later they hauled out on the Lanikai side of LPB. They were difficult to photograph because there was a lot of wave action and salt spray. When they first hauled out PO6 started nursing. Later they snoozed, and PO6 nursed again. MO6 is beginning to look thin.
MO7 and PO7 were on LPB when she started viewing although PO7 was mostly hidden behind Mom. then about 1pm MO7 & PO7 went into the water for almost an hour before hauling out on LPB again. PO7 started nursing then crawled around MO7's head and went into snooze mode.
Between the 3BS and SRI there was a S/M: subadult size, greenish male belly and two red tags. She did not see scars or markings that would have given a clue.

Team T&D hiked Ka'ena Point and saw a total of six seals today.
First seal was swimming in the water, luckily they saw the applied bleach! It was RG28 Lefty.
Next was RW02 PvKauai. But while walking further they saw another seal with RW02. Unfortunately they were not able to get the ID of the critter with RW02.
Ka'ena RO40 was their next find. Sadly as they got to him he was surrounded by five people, all within a few feet of him. And I quote "my only wish was he got up and barked to scare them so they would have fallen in the water" I agree!
Next seal was R330 Squint. Then they saw another seal come swimming in. It was R3CX Nalu, he and Squinty had a few words and Nalu left.
They looked for RQ24 Mauna but did not see him today. He's probably out exploring as weaners do.
Also they got to see a Wedge-Tailed Shearwater rotating its egg.

Team R&B were out searching and once again had a very slow day. They got to the bay and found one seal on the rocks. It was Kalua
RL20, looking very green, healthy and chubby. There was nothing out of the ordinary.
Looks like RIMPAC has begun with some very large ships in Hawaiian waters.

Team R&B arrived at the cliffs and at first look saw nothing. As they walked away they could hear the seals arguing loudly. So they ran back looking and looking. Finally they spotted the two seals fighting,
one being none other than butthead Kaale RH32 and RL42 Leia. Poor RL42 was trying all kinds of tricks to get away from Kaale.
She hugged the rocks, he followed. She turned to give a big bark, he loved it.
She tried galumphing on the rocks, he came up with a vengence.
Both would land, Kaale the butthead, blocked her exit. She just laid there quietly. He made sure he kept his eye on her, so she couldn't dump his butt.
