7/20/2022 Wednesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Team R&B arrived at one of the west side beaches and while looking around, they heard seal fighting.
They ran over to see two seals! One seal is very clean then it took off, it was reported as a U/U. (they think its RL42).
The second seal who was fighting with the U/U was RG28 Lefty. They saw his applied bleach on his side. RG28 took off going westerly.
Two men saw them looking at the beach intently, told them a seal just passed them at Yoks. They just missed it.
They then did the Ka'ena West Trek hoping to dind someone out there, but they were skunked.

After their Ka'ena West Trek they saw a little green seal on shore from afar. They hurried over and on shore were several folks checking out the little seal. One had to a bit closer, Team R&B didn't say anything but the couple must have felt their thoughts.
There was RP84 Pe'ekai still hanging out on Oahu. He wasn't there earlier when they passed by.  He looks so small compared to the adult seals they see. He is fine, didn't see anything out of the ordinary.
They were thrilled to see Pe'ekai since they hadn't seen him since the big waves began.

As they headed out from spending time with Pe'ekai they saw working crew clearing all the sand that the waves had brought. Looks like this is why the area was closed the other day.
They also saw a big turtle on shore with some dude hanging close by.

They found RL20 Kalua at the bay on the rocks. He was alone and snoozing. He was probably tuckered out fighting the big waves the past few days.

Team R&B did one last spot to find two seals basking peacefully. There was Kaale RH32, the Big
Bumbucha. He was to the left of RL08.  Rl08 moved to the shallows to cool off. (Team R&B wanted to do the same, it was so hot out there).

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from Makai Pier from about 12:15 to 2:00 pm. Kilali Gibson of NOAA joined her from about 1:15 to 2:00 pm and there were ultimately four seals on island today.

Initially there were two seals on island:
Between Middle Cliff and 3BS was the molting Adult Female (AF): adult to subadult size, female, two red tags and appears about 25% molted (most of the upper chest).
About 30 feet Makapuu side of the 3BS was RK37 Hui'a who has been hanging around RI during her molt and now post-molt: subadult size, light gray female belly, two red tags, and nb on lower left side.

After going back out on the lanai at 12:55 pm after the rain squall, Marilyn saw that weaner RQ76 had hauled out from the Lanikai side of LPB.

Just as they started viewing after Kilali arrived, the newly weaned PO7 hauled out and moved up close
to RQ76 at about 1:15 pm. This is the first time Marilyn has seen PO7 without mom RL12 Aukai. PO7's tag on his LRF is clearly visible. Marilyn isn't sure if PO7 was weaned yesterday or today. PO7 is 44 days old today.
Although PO7 and RQ76 are only one day apart in age, you can see the dramatic difference in size between RQ76 who was weaned at 33 days and PO7 who was weaned at 43-44 days. RQ76 went back into the water about 1:45 pm.
