We have had quite a cast of seals around here the last couple of weeks. Some new, some old, new wounds, a hooking.
- KG54 Huaka'i has been back and has been seen in different locations. She's looking very healthy
- R3CU gave us the honor of his presence and even did an overnight at the point
- R407 Kawika has been doing a couple of checks and an overnight here and there
- R330 Squinty has been the big male and has been seen escorting and protecting the girls, chasing away any male that has been around them. He's been with RG40 'E'ena, RL74 Kami, R604 Kiane. The male chased the most often has been RG40 Holokai.
- RL98 Lina has been hanging and cruising around alone. She even went to the Westside for an overnight
- RL74 Kami has been hauling out at her usual spots but lately with other seals around her
- R604 Kiane has been visiting for several weeks. Last Saturday she showed up with a fist size CC bite on her back, then on Sunday she showed up with a Ulua hook under her RFF and a lot of gear and fishing line. Some of the gear and line was retrieved, but the hook and some gear stayed on. We monitored her daily and on D5 she had tossed the hook and gear. She went on being monitored and is doing fine. Her CC bite is drying well
- RN58 Luana is looking BIG and healthy. I haven't seen her for a couple of days, so I believe she on her last binges.
- RW02 PVKauai has been alternating between Westside and Mokuleia. Probably searching for adventures or just keeping away from trouble
- RJ40 'E'ena our Molokai girl has been spending long stretches here, but we know she has been back to Molokai here and there. She does well with the gang here
- RL42 Leia has been visiting this side and I've also seen her enjoying the peace of Keawa'ula side
- R353 Came for an overnight visit. I was called by some neighbors to go check. I hadn't seen her for a while and she's looking BIG and very healthy.
- RO40 Ka'ena showed up last week with a new tear on his LFF. It didn't quite look like a round CC Bite, but also didn't have other teeth marks for a shark bite so it's just a tear and is healing well
- Last but not least is the visit of "Bam Bam Square Pants" RL08. He has been enjoying hanging around the other seals.
We can still see whales cruising up and down. A lot of activity with young calves breaching, females slapping their pectorals, peduncles, and tail slaps till you lose count.
The Wedge Tail Shearwaters have arrived. Their trails are everywhere on the paths, you can hear them moaning in the Naupaka and other bushes.
The LAAL chicks took a big hit with the El Nina. With the winds back we have had many adults flying around. BFAL can still be seen visiting and flying around.
We met Susan Scott on Saturday, she counted 9 Koleas in the permitted area. I mentioned that I've seen several with the bottom part of their bodies already in tuxedo colors black and white.
We have had a dozer working all last week, some of the access roads were reopened. There's still a lot more to be done before next rains.
More soon - be safe
