In the yesterday's news department Team T&D hiked Ka'ena with Lesley. Their first find was RL98 Lina. Down the beach from her was Miss Lady the Honu. It's a rarity out there, so its always nice to see a turtle and seal on the same beach.
Next they found KG54 Huaka'i, its the first time she's been in this spot.
Out at the point was RW02 PvKauai. The whales were out as well and while they were watching R3CU came swimming in. R3CU and RW02 had a couple of words then settled down at opposite ends of the pool.
Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:40 to 2:45 and there was only one seal on island toady.
Unknown Male U/M: probably larger juvenile to subadult size, two res tags and lighter gray male belly. Marilyn never got a lateral view of the seal so it was hard to estimate size. She did not see any scars, marks or bleaches from her perspective.
They had found R413 Makamae high up on shore alone. They set up a stick zone for her because there were so many people on this small beach. Two volunteers arrived with signs and placed the signs. They were part of the marine debris group.
Team R&B educated folks that came by about the seal. Miss Makamae was sound a sleep the whole visit. Just before they left for to gas up their car, R413 moved down.
When they returned she was gone. And that's when they found Kaale RH32 and RL08 as mentioned in yesterdays post.
Today they headed out and arrived at an area that has been busy lately. They spotted two seal from afarand were heading in. By the time they got to where the seals were getting close, Lefty RG28 had come in, looking around for any of his buddies were around. He was on his own today. He hauled out on shore, moaning and being vocal all by himself. They put out signs and educated folks and called the hotline. While they were waiting for the volunteer they went exploring. That's when they found Kekoa Alii RK72 foraging off shore.
The volunteer arrived, they updated her on the seals and then left the site for the day.
At another site they saw a seal foraging who they thought might be Kaale RH32, but they weren't sure do it was reported as an unknown unidentified.
Kekoa was foraging doing six minute dives, and tourist were wondering why they were taking photos. So they explained to them about the seal foraging. The tourist were thrilled and they got to see a turtle swimming by. Kekoa never landed.
At another west side location they found RP84 Pe'ekai. He was up on high rocks sound asleep snoring.
Then there was RL08 in the shallows. He started moving up with the rising tide.
Their last find today was RL20 Kalua. He was alone snoozing on the rocks. He looked healthy no signs of hooks or lines.
Team R&B got to see some big surf today and got a couple of good shots to share.
