03/08/2022 (PART 2) Lesley's Weekly Ka'ena Point Report #1

I just counted the list of individuals for this report : 14 !! add whales, LAAL, BFAL, a yellow Parrakeet, Koleas and our very special "LADY" our big turtle.

We have a new girl in town, it took many days checking the database to find that she was IDed in Kauai last year and there's barely any documentation on her. I was lucky to see her on 3 different occasions so now she has been documented on ALL sides. Our girl is R604 nicknamed Kiane.
She was frequently documented with R330 Squinty and once with R3CX Nalu and RJ40 'E'ena.
RG40 Holokai has been up and down the coast sometimes solo sometimes tagging along Squinty.
RL42 Leia showed up today and is looking VERY healthy, just as her younger sister RN58
Luana
KG54 Huaka'i is also back in the hood and has definitely put on some fat
RG28 Lefty came by for a visit at the point possibly looking for his friends R3CX Nalu and R3CU
RW02 PVKauai and RO40 Ka'ena come and go as usual. Ka'ena seems to have become a "loner" preferring to stay away from action
RL98 Lina has been hauling out daily at midmoring.

"LADY" showed up again, it's always nice to see her. She usually shows up in January and I was getting worried.
Another fun day was last Saturday when a yellow bird flew in from the sea over our heads out at the point. Straight away I said "it's a parrot !", turns out it was a Lutino Ringneck Parrakeet. Females are yellow with red beak. There was NO way I could try to get it with 3 seals on the beach. The bird actually flew down from some rocks on to the beach, got wet by a wave and walked up the sand. Seals never noticed him. Later in the evening I found a post on social media of a missing parrakeet.   More soon ðŸŒº
