Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:04 to 3:24 and there were a total of four seals today.
When she first started viewing there were only two seals on the waterfront rocks about 30 feet Makapuu side of 3BS. They were joined by a third seal soon after. The trio included:
U/A: appears to be adult size, never got a look at the belly or rear flippers. This seal pretty much stayed in a tidepool among the waterfront rocks.
S/F: subadult size, somewhat greenish female belly and at least one tag but most likely two.
S/M: he was the late arriver and he galumphed behind the other two seals and settled. Subadult size, light yellow male belly and at least one tag.
Then nearer the SRI was an adult female by herself. A/F: adult size, gray female belly and two tags. There weren't any obvious markers.
In yesterdays news from Team R&B, when they did a recheck at one of the sites. RL20 Kalua was still on site and R3CX Nalu had joined him. At one point RL20 decided to leave and as he did he vomited in the water. Guess something didn't agree with him. When Nalu R3CX woke up and was alone.
Team R&B started their morning by finding a seal on the rocks snoozing. It took them a minute before they recognized RL70 Leina. She must have been there for a while since she was completely dry. They noticed she had a small nick on her right eye. They also noticed a spot on her lower lip. Not sure what it is, if its an infection spot but they wanted to make note of it. Other than that she seemed perfectly fine. On their recheck later in the day she was no longer there.
Heading over to tracks they were thrilled to find Kaale RH32 on shore snoozing. They gave him a good look over, body condition looks good even though he was covered in sand. He looks good, and it was nice to get a look at him hauled out.
Team R&B got a text that there was a seal hauled out at Secrets so they let posse pal Amy know and she went to check. She reported two seals and put up a couple of signs. Unfortunately the signs that Team R&B had left on site were taken again. On the rocks was the fat handsome boy Kekoa Alii RK72. RG28 Lefty was hauled out on the sand. Team R&B headed out at noon and Amy stayed until close to 6 pm. Both critters finally left the site. BIG KUDOS TO AMY!!!
Amy did send an email with a couple of photos, informing me the boys were there from 10 am to 6 pm and slept soundly for the day.
Off to another west side location and they immediately saw their boy Pe'ekai RP84 hauling up on high rocks. Typically this is where the big boys haul out, but today its Pe'ekai's spot. Too cute!
RL08 was to the right at seal inlet. He was in a deep deep snooze.
They were also treated to a couple of whales popping up.
