Marilyn had heard earlier this week of a seal on the east side, so this morning before work she stopped to check. She stayed for about 20 minutes seeing several wallows showing the critter had been in the area overnight. She believes this to be Right Spot based on the natural bleach on her right side that is green at the moment, female belly and upper chest scar. Marilyn called the hotline.
Team Billand checked the bay out early this morning enjoying their breakfast and watch the sunrise.
When they arrived there were no seals, but as the sun came out and the dried up all the rain, they spotted a seal. It was still a little dark to tell who this critter was, but as it got brighter, the boats arrived, along with the paddle boarders, swimmers, and walkers. Finally they spot the seals first ID was RL12 Aukai. She would get close to the buoy, then move on, go across by the jetty. She spent a lot of time roaming back and forth. Next there was Nalu R3CX moving about. They had a hard tome getting a decent shor of him but he was out there in the bay. Then there was sweet Lei Ola RH48 swimming by the jetty.. Nalu had joined her a couple times, (he going for broke with all the females).
Ka'ale RH32 was by the jetty in the early morning and then came over to the buoy side, then back to the jetty. At one point it looked like he stole a big fish and the fisherman was not happy about it.
There was a woman on a board and was thrilled to see a seal pop up next to her. The seal popped up twice then took off. Team Billand was unable to get any ID.
Team Billand headed out to another location and at about 11:10 and were thrilled to see seals on the rocks again. RN14 Kalani was alone, snoozing on the lower rocks. There was debris around but he was away from it. He is looking fat and happy.
Kawena RH36 was there being pursued by Lefty RG28. Kawena looks plump and healthy. Lefty is looking a little thinner but okay, nothing to be concerned about.
At 11:45 Team Billand arrived at another west side location and were beyond thrilled to see Kawika
R407 back in the neighborhood. He was covered in sand but looking good. The water in this area is still looking brown. While setting up a make--shift zone, they got a call from a friend that a seal was out at plains. When they got out there was a very green seal, facing the wrong way. They waited and finally they spot a small bleach spot on his side, crinkle in hind flipper. The seal finally moved with the rising tide and there they could see the facial scars and were thrilled to see DA Benny. He is still looking quite green scraggly no molt yet.
